Windows Home Server: Hit or Miss?

Though some of the new MS technologies like MS Windows Server 2008 and Hyper-V, it seems that MS may have missed the mark with Windows Home Server.

It appears that by using this at home, you could lose some data by simply using having more than one disk and using some of your standard software (like MS Office 2007).

From an article on eWeek [4],

"Microsoft says fixing a data corruption bug in Windows Home Server is the top priority for the product's development team.

Microsoft admitted on a technical blog on March 10 that Windows Home Server can corrupt data when used with a wide variety of common applications.

According to the blog posting [5], Microsoft has been aware of the "data corruption issue" since "late December 2007." Specifically, Microsoft states in its KnowledgeBase listing [6] that on servers with more than one hard drive running Windows Home Server users can experience data corruption with Windows Vista Photo Gallery; Windows Live Photo Gallery; Microsoft Office OneNote 2007; Microsoft Office OneNote 2003; Microsoft Office Outlook 2007; Microsoft Money 2007; SyncToy 2.0 Beta; Intuit QuickBooks; and uTorrent, the popular BitTorrent client."

So you might be better off looking at other alternatives, at least until this bug is fixed.
