The shutdown of general availability for the Windows 7 Beta will occur in 3 phases over the course of the next few weeks:

• Starting January 27th, the Windows 7 page will be updated with a warning that time is running out on downloading the Windows 7 Beta and that we will be limiting downloads shortly. People will be encouraged to register and start the download of the Windows 7 Beta sooner rather than later.
• February 10th, new downloads of the Windows 7 Beta will no longer be available. People who have already started their Windows 7 Beta download and have not yet finished will still be able to finish their download and are encouraged to do so.
• February 12th, people will no longer be able to complete their download of the Windows 7 Beta. Anyone who hasn’t finished downloading the Windows 7 Beta will be unable to do so.

Product keys for the Windows 7 Beta will continue to be available. So if you have the Windows 7 Beta but didn’t get a product key you will be able to do so even after February 12th.

Yesterday, the use of a Ubuntu 8.10 VMWare vmdk in VirtualBox worked as a charm. The VirtualBox started, I reconfigured the Xorg using sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg, installed the VirtualBox Guest Additions and that was that.

Today, trying to use an existing corporate and custom Windows XP (SP2) VMWare image in VirtualBox, the VirtualBox Virtual Machine started but then stopped before the Windows XP boot up screen. Starting it in Safe Mode only showed that is stopped at the agp40.sys.

Doing some of the usual research, it turns out that for Windows OS based VMWare hard disk images, a couple of advanced VirtualBox settings are recommended:

So you have been using Virtual Machines for a while and you now have the dilemma of having some in VMWare, others in Microsoft VirtualPC or VirtualServer and potentially Parallels or other formats.
Especially, if like some of us, you want to have a solution that is as flexible and powerful as VMWare workstation (creating images, snapshots, ....) w/out the license cost while being as simple to configure and run (if so required) as Microsoft VirtualPC. Well, don't despair!

Simply use SUN VirtualBox to use your existing virtual machines' images w/out losing some of the cool features and the ability to create new one Virtual images (unlike VMWare Player):
