Review: The new iPhone Air is the sexiest iPhone Ive ever tested
Wow, it’s thin. And light. And it feels very nice in your hand.
I’ve been showing Apple's new iPhone Air to people for the last couple of days, and that, without fail, is the reaction that I get.
This tells me that I may have been wrong about the iPhone Air. When it was first announced, I wasn’t sure that the world needed a very thin iPhone. And I was sure that a super-thin iPhone would surely take a hit when it comes to battery life. And when I saw that it only had a single rear camera — the horror! "This thing will surely be a dud," I thought.
But the iPhone Air isn’t just thin. Think about it this way: This is the first iPhone that was designed, first and foremost, to be as cool, beautiful, and, yes, sexy as possible.
I’ve only had the iPhone Air in my hands for a few days, not enough time to fully assess its camera or battery life. My full review of the iPhone Air is coming in a week or two. For now, let’s talk first impressions.
The iPhone Air is the pretty one 5.64 mm. And no, the camera 'plateau' doesn't ruin the effect. Credit: Stan Schroeder/MashableThe size contrast is even bigger when you compare the iPhone Air with the iPhone 17 Pro Max, which is exactly what its name says, a professional-grade workhorse in the form of a phone. I’ll have more on the iPhone 17 Pro Max later, but when you place it next to the iPhone Air, it feels like a Ford F-150 parked next to a Porsche. The Porsche may not have the utility that a pick-up has, but it turns heads.
CNET reporter Abrar Al-Heeti holds the iPhone Air. Credit: CNETYes, the iPhone Air is almost impossibly thin. At 5.64mm, not counting the camera bump, it feels like it shouldn’t exist. More shocking, to me, was how light it was. It weighs 30 percent less than the iPhone 17 Pro Max, but in your hand, it feels like the difference is even bigger.
Most importantly, it’s just so incredibly nice to look at. I’ve got the Space Black variant, and if you're on the fence, I highly recommend you check it out in person at the Apple Store; pictures just don’t do it justice. The 6.5-inch display melts into the polished titanium frame (yes, this one still has a titanium frame, unlike the new scratch-prone Pro models), making the bezels seem almost non-existent. On the matte black back, the glossy camera plateau rises to reveal a single rear camera. Most other phones emphasize the camera bump; on the iPhone Air, Apple made it almost disappear, unless you look at it directly from the side.
Easy to miss if you're holding it sideways. Credit: Stan Schroeder/MashableThe iPhone Air is also very nice to hold. Not only is it light, but the weight is distributed well. I bet that the reason why Apple didn’t put a second camera into that camera bump (plateau) was weight distribution; a top-heavy phone just doesn’t feel as good in your hand.
Please, no accessoriesThe iPhone Air has almost the same chip architecture as the Pro models, and it performs buttery smooth. The OLED display is gorgeous, thanks to ProMotion tech that’s now standard across the entire lineup. As I’ve said, battery life and camera need more testing, but I’m pretty sure the iPhone Air won’t compare well to the iPhone 17 Pro Max.
The MagSafe battery helps with battery life, but the Air is just not the same when it's on. Credit: Stan Schroeder/MashableKnowing this, Apple sent me a bunch of accessories that somewhat reduce the issues that arise with having an incredibly thin and light smartphone. One is the bumper case, a simple frame that shields the device from the sides but does little to protect the back. Another is a see-through case with a MagSafe ring. Finally, there’s the (white) MagSafe battery pack that attaches to the back to add some more juice to the battery life.
SEE ALSO: Apple Event 2025 live blog: Every 'awe-dropping' announcement, including iPhone AirTo heck with all of them, I say. Yes, the iPhone Air needs protection; a phone this nice shouldn’t be full of scratches. And the additional battery juice is surely great to have. But all of these new iPhone accessories make the iPhone Air a lot thicker, and way less cool than it’s supposed to be. If I had to pick one, I’d probably take a bumper case (perhaps something slimmer than the one from Apple), slap an Apple Wallet to the back for some protection, and hope for the best.
But who is it for? I bet most people will prefer the Air. Credit: Stan Schroeder/MashableIs there a market for this type of phone? I will know more when I spend more time with it. At first glance, I'd say the answer is yes. My guess is that almost everyone who walks into an Apple store and compares the iPhone Air with any other iPhone will prefer the Air. Which one you end up choosing is another matter, but the Air wins on first impressions, and that's no small thing.

Unless you're a power user, it can be hard to justify the $20 a month cost of a paid ChatGPT subscription. But those free usage limits can be really annoying. OpenAI does offer a lower-cost subscription called ChatGPT Go, though it's not available here in the United States.
However, OpenAI is further expanding its ChatGPT Go offering. Late Monday evening, OpenAI's vice president and head of ChatGPT Nick Turley announced that ChatGPT Go is now rolling out in Indonesia, providing users there with "10× higher message limits, 10× more image generations, 10× more file uploads, and double the memory compared to our free plan."
The price for ChatGPT Go in Indonesia? About $4.50 USD.
This Tweet is currently unavailable. It might be loading or has been removed. What is ChatGPT Go?Over the summer, OpenAI announced a new ChatGPT subscription tier with ChatGPT Go. The plan launched in mid-August and, so far, has only been made available in India (and now Indonesia). The pricing works out to roughly $4.50 per month.
ChatGPT Go is priced much lower than the cheapest paid plan available in the U.S., which is the $20 per month ChatGPT Plus subscription tier.
Why did OpenAI launch ChatGPT Go?The existence of the ChatGPT Go plan is significant. It shows that OpenAI wants to continue to provide access to users in countries where the higher price would be a barrier to entry for most people. While OpenAI says that "Other countries and regions may be eligible in the future," at this time, it's only available in India and Indonesia.
What's included with ChatGPT Go?The low-cost plan offers all the benefits of a free subscription, plus some additional perks, according to OpenAI documentation:
More access to GPT-5
More image generation
More file uploads
Advanced data analysis with tools like Python
Longer memory and bigger context windows
The ability to create and edit custom GPTs
OpenAI also notes that API access is not included.
Is ChatGPT Go coming to the United States?Sadly, there's no indication that OpenAI has any plans to make ChatGPT Go available to American users. While we would love to see OpenAI roll out a $5 plan, we don't think that's likely. However, if you're a student in the United States or Canada, you may be eligible for a reduced-price Plus membership. Students can learn more at OpenAI's website.
Is OpenAI going to raise ChatGPT prices?Unfortunately, it could.
Earlier this week, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman announced new yet unspecified "compute-intensive offerings." According to Altman, "because of the associated costs, some features will initially only be available to Pro subscribers." ChatGPT Pro is OpenAI's whopping $200 per month subscription tier for its AI chatbot.
This Tweet is currently unavailable. It might be loading or has been removed.Furthermore, Altman said that "some new products will have additional fees" on top of the existing subscription costs.
As technology writer Ed Zitron reports, AI has been a money-losing endeavor for many tech companies so far. The easiest way to solve that issue appears to be simply raising prices.
However, it appears OpenAI doesn't want to lose market share in developing nations, which is where ChatGPT Go could fit in.
Disclosure: Ziff Davis, Mashable’s parent company, in April filed a lawsuit against OpenAI, alleging it infringed Ziff Davis copyrights in training and operating its AI systems.
The Bride! uncensored trailer: Jessie Buckley and Christian Bale star in Maggie Gyllenhaals wild Frankenstein retelling
Above, witness the uncensored first trailer for The Bride! — which might be a tad NFSW.
It's a great time to be a Frankenstein fan. Mary Shelley's classic 1818 novel has inspired not one, but two upcoming films: Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein and Maggie Gyllenhaal's The Bride!
This marks Gyllenhaal's follow-up to The Lost Daughter, which earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay and Jessie Buckley a nod for Best Actress in a supporting role. The writer/director and her leading lady reunite for The Bride!, which puts a true-crime spin on the tale of the Bride of Frankenstein.
In 1930s Chicago, a lonely Frankenstein (Christian Bale) — the monster, not the doctor — visits scientist Dr. Euphronius (Annette Bening) with an unusual request. He would like her to make him a companion. To do so, the pair revives a murdered young woman, and the Bride (Buckley) is born. Cue the obligatory, "She's alive!"
Yes, the Bride is alive. And she's not quite what either Frankenstein or Dr. Euphronius were imagining.
Together, the Bride and Frankenstein ignite a horror-tinged romance. But that's not all! According to the film's official synopsis, the pair inspire "a full-tilt radical cultural movement." They also become outlaws wanted for murder, adding a bit of a Bonnie and Clyde flair to their story.
Watch the full uncensored trailer above to get a full glimpse at the wild fantasy world Gyllenhaal is conjuring up, and to see Buckley and Bale's transformations into two of pop culture's most well-known monsters.
The Bride! also stars Peter Sarsgaard, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Penélope Cruz.

Enterprise AI projects aren’t producing value. Is ‘workslop’ one reason why?
Businesses across industries have been betting big on AI in the workplace—but the results have been, frankly, underwhelming. According to a new MIT Media Lab report, a staggering 95 percent of organizations have seen no measurable return on their investments in generative AI tools.
MIT researchers cite several reasons for this adoption/ROI gap. Chief among them: AI doesn’t slot neatly into many workplace workflows, and most models still lack the contextual awareness needed to adapt to industry-specific tasks.
But a separate team at BetterUp Labs argues there’s another culprit: AI workslop. Writing in Harvard Business Review, the researchers define workslop as "AI-generated content that looks polished but doesn’t actually move work forward." In practice, it means employees end up spending more time fixing, rewriting, or clarifying AI’s "help" than if they’d done the job themselves.
The downstream effect is costly. The report estimates that workers spend nearly two hours a day (1 hour, 56 minutes, on average) dealing with workslop — decoding half-baked ideas, correcting missing details, and reworking content that isn’t actually useful. Worse, the burden doesn’t just stay with the person who generated the workslop: managers and peers get dragged in, creating a ripple effect across teams.
Researchers tie this to cognitive offloading — using external tools to reduce mental effort. But with workslop, that burden isn’t offloaded to a machine; it’s offloaded onto a coworker. The phenomenon is most common among peers (40 percent of cases, according to BetterUp), though managers aren’t immune: higher-ups throw down workslop to their teams about 16 percent of the time.
Overall, BetterUp Labs estimates that companies with 10,000+ employees could be bleeding as much as $9 million a year in lost productivity thanks to the sheer volume of workslop — roughly 40% of all AI-generated output in the workplace, according to the report. Beyond the financial hit, there’s also a cultural cost. Employees in the study reported feeling annoyed, confused, and even offended when handed workslop, eroding trust and reliability among coworkers.
While one solution to bad AI output may be to stop using these tools completely, BetterUp Labs argues the smarter path is to set clear organizational guidelines for how employees should (and shouldn’t) use AI. That means defining best-case scenarios where AI adds value, and drawing firm boundaries where it doesn’t align with company strategy or values.
The researchers also suggest a mindset shift: AI should be treated as a collaborator, not a crutch. In other words, it’s a tool to support good work — not a shortcut to avoid doing the work in the first place.

Mondo reveals Over the Garden Wall collectible figures and vinyl soundtrack variant
Can you hear that? The gentle wind beckoning through the leaves?
Fall is fast approaching, with its crunchy fallen leaves, pumpkins on porches, and trick-or-treat shenanigans. It's the perfect season to revisit Patrick McHale's Emmy Award-winning animated mini-series Over the Garden Wall. As half-brothers, worried Wirt (Elijah Wood) and mischievous Greg (Collin Dean), trek into The Unknown, where they meet an array of curious characters, like a many-named frog, a tough-talking bluebird (Melanie Lynskey), and a monstrous dog with "beautiful eyes!"
To celebrate Over the Garden Wall this spooky season, Mondo has unveiled its plans to release a series of collectable figures as well as a new variant of the original soundtrack LP by The Blasting Company. Mashable has the exclusive on the album's new details as well as the first batch of figures, in the Over the Garden Wall Figure Set – Chapter 1.
Over the Garden Wall creator Patrick McHale has expressed enthusiasm over the Mondo collection, sharing in a press release, "Mondo's quality is always fantastic, but these figures feel extra special. The attention to detail is stunning."
Let's break down the goodies that might tempt you to treat yourself:

His cloak can be in three stages of open to closed, and he comes with an ax and his signature Pilgrim's hat. As for Greg, he naturally has candy, his rock (for rock facts), his tea-kettle hat, the dark turtle, and his beloved frog (aka Kitty, Wirt, Dr. Cucumber, and Jason Funderburker).

All of this is included in the Regular Edition of Mondo's Over the Garden Wall Figure Set — "Chapter 1: The Old Grist Mill," which retails for $95. New record low price on the Eufy C10 robot vacuum — get self-emptying and smart mapping for $199.99

Finding a cheap robot vacuum at Amazon isn't hard. A slew of random options from unrecognizable brands come up in the search — but no one ever promised they'd actually be reliable. So when I scrolled past a super popular Eufy robot vacuum at a new record low price, I had to put it on everyone's radar: At $199.99 after a 58% discount, the Eufy C10 robot vacuum is easily the best budget robot vacuum under $200 out there right now. If this is any indication of how October Prime Day robot vacuum deals will look, we're in for a treat.
The Eufy C10 is such a bang for your buck because it brings home two core robot vacuum features — self-emptying and smart mapping — that you don't often see together on robot vacuums in the sub-$200 price range. Automatic emptying is merely an extension of the hands-off convenience that drew you to robot vacuums in the first place.
SEE ALSO: As an anxious cat mom, I love my robot vacuum with a livestream cameraBut as someone who tests robot vacuums for a living, I'd argue that smart mapping is the most crucial bullet point when choosing a robot vacuum. This allows the robot vac to remember a map of your home and clean specific rooms on command (or specific zones within those rooms). It's the difference between a robot vacuum that actually makes your life easier and a robot vacuum that needs to be rescued all the time. While LiDAR smart mapping usually requires a circular laser tower, Eufy finagled a LiDAR system within a flat, 2.85-inch body. This make the C10 one of the slimmest robot vacuums on the market.
At 4,000 Pa of suction power, this Eufy isn't the best robot vacuum for pet hair — but it's sufficient suction power for low-stakes daily cleaning needs.
New OnePlus flagship phone revealed on Weibo
The next OnePlus flagship made its debut appearance on Chinese social media this week.
Specifically, a post on Weibo (courtesy of 9to5Google) featured a photo of a bunch of professional esports athletes all huddled around a phone to take a selfie, with the caption saying "Guess what they were looking at?" Pretty much everyone seems to believe that this is the OnePlus 15, and the big news here is that it looks very different from last year's model.
SEE ALSO: Samsung's Tri-Fold phone could come to the U.S. this yearSpecifically, it has a square camera module on the back, as opposed to the circular one on the OnePlus 13. For context, OnePlus is said to be skipping 14 and going straight to 15 because of cultural reasons. Prominent leaker Digital Chat Station also said on Weibo that the phone has a matte texture with a ceramic coating of some sort. It's also apparently thinner than the iPhone 17, but we don't know anything else about it beyond all of that.
Last year, the OnePlus 13 launched in January, so perhaps we will learn more by then.

The Apple Watch Series 11 arrived just a few days ago and is largely the same as the Series 10, but with a big step up in battery life. It even costs the same amount as the previous generation, though you can already find it at a discount at Amazon.
As of Sept. 23, you can save $10 if you grab the new Apple Watch Series 11 at Amazon. That knocks its price down to $389 instead of $399 and marks its first-ever discount. That's also the cheapest you'll find the smartwatch at any retailer. Sure, it's not much, but just like this surprise AirPods Pro 3 deal, 10 bucks is 10 bucks.
More of a minor upgrade, the Apple Watch Series 11 brings slight improvements to hardware, connectivity, and as mentioned before, battery life. Last year's Series 10 had 18 hours of battery life. Apple says the Series 11 has 24 hours of battery life — and Mashable's reviewer Stan Schroeder found it to last slightly longer than that. "It's possible to extend that to a full weekend if you carefully use Low Power mode," he writes, which is a pretty big deal for the Apple Watch.
The Series 11 also sports the same S10 chip as its predecessor, but has a tougher design with durable glass that's twice as resistant to scratches. It's now 5G-capable for quicker connectivity and features a hypertension tool designed to flag high blood pressure (but not replace a doctor).
If you're in the market for an upgrade — or you just want that extra battery life — buying at Amazon is your best bet for saving a little bit of cash on your purchase.

The baby gift card deal covers seven pages of select diapers for various ages (including overnight options, swim pants, and Pull-Ups), plus a huge selection of baby wipes. Participating brands include Pampers, The Honest Company, Huggies, and Millie Moon.

Meta adds AI dating assistant to Facebook Dating
Meta has announced two new features to Facebook Dating: Meet Cute and an AI dating assistant.
The former adds an element of surprise when using Meta's free dating service. Meet Cute matches you with a random user based on its matching algorithm, and you can choose to either chat with them or unmatch. Users will start getting a weekly Meet Cute match — but you can opt out at any time.
SEE ALSO: Meta Ray-Ban Display fail wasn't the worst. These tech demos are more cringe. The dating assistant, meanwhile, is a chat assistant within Facebook Dating that supposedly "gives you personalized help on your dating journey," according to Meta's announcement. The assistant can help find better matches and allows users to enter unique traits that they're looking for, beyond the classics of height and education. (The example Meta used is, "Find me a Brooklyn girl in tech.") It can also provide dating ideas and profile help.
The dating assistant is available in the matches tab and will start rolling out in the U.S. and Canada.
Meta announced that these new features are designed to "help address swipe fatigue," a term that encompasses disillusionment with online dating and dating apps. Daters have been feeling this for some time, and while other dating apps are introducing AI features as well, daters told Mashable they actually want to meet others in a low-tech way: in person.
SEE ALSO: How to get over a breakupThis isn't the first time that Meta has used AI to help users find a partner. In 2023, when Meta rolled out its AI characters, one of them was Carter, an AI dating coach. People soon found out that Carter kink-shamed them, like advising against swinging.
Meta deleted Carter and its other AI personalities back in January, and in August a report found that Meta's AI bots impersonated celebrities and produced lewd images. The tech giant hasn't stopped its AI push, though, debuting its "AI glasses" last week.

While most solid noise-cancelling earbuds come with a steep price tag, it's not impossible to find a pair that check all the right boxes for under $100. Or, in this case, under $60.
As of Sept. 23, the relatively unknown EarFun Air Pro 4 earbuds are on sale for just $55.99 at Amazon. Not only is that 30% or $24 off their usual list price, but it's also their lowest price on record.
Mashable's resident headphones expert Bethany Allard struggled to find the flaws of these budget-friendly buds upon testing. "The EarFun Air Pro 4 earbuds may not come from one of the more well-known audio brands, but they have some of the best battery life and noise cancellation we've experienced on any earbuds, not just those in the budget price range," she writes in our best noise-cancelling headphones guide.
They pack about 7.5 hours of battery per charge with ANC on (11 or so without), as well as another 27.5 (or 41) with the charging case. For comparison's sake, the new AirPods Pro 3 allegedly last 8 hours per charge with ANC and up to 24 with the charging case. They also come with a companion app that allows you to customize touch control settings, adjust the ANC modes, and use the custom EQ tool. Although, our reviewer notes that they sound great right out of the box. They can also connect to two devices and switch between them seamlessly.
Allard's only real issue with these earbuds was the touch controls, but it's easy to overlook those (or just toggle them off) when they have so many other perks. At full price, we think the EarFun Air Pro 4s are the best budget-friendly earbuds. At 30% off, they're basically the crowned jewel.
Jordan Peele and Hideo Kojima release new ‘OD’ teaser
Death Stranding 2 only just came out a couple of months ago, but it's already time to talk about director Hideo Kojima's next big game.
Kojima held a live-streamed announcement event on Monday night where most of the attention was on the first real teaser for OD, a horror game he is developing for Xbox in collaboration with Nope mastermind Jordan Peele. The 3-minute teaser doesn't seem like it includes any actual gameplay footage, as the game is surely still in the early stages of development, but you can get a basic idea of the kind of tone Kojima and Peele are going for if you watch it.
SEE ALSO: Nintendo is bringing back the reviled 'Virtual Boy' as a Switch accessoryMost of the teaser revolves around first-person point-of-view footage of someone lighting some candles at a weird, baby-centric shrine (Kojima's got a fascination with babies, I guess) while someone (or something) mysteriously knocks on a nearby door. You don't get much beyond that and confirmation that actors like Udo Kier and Hunter Schafer are involved with the project in the video. Still, it's enough to evoke memories of PT, an infamous first-person horror demo for an eventually canceled Silent Hill project that Kojima was working with Guillermo del Toro on about a decade ago.
That said, anyone who has followed Kojima's work for long enough knows that his trailers can be misleading, so we can't say, with any confidence, what OD actually is at this point. It certainly seems like it'll be creepy, though. Nothing wrong with that.

U.N. experts want AI red lines. Heres what they might be.
The AI Red Lines initiative launched at the United Nations General Assembly Tuesday — the perfect place for a very nonspecific declaration.
More than 200 Nobel laureates and other artificial intelligence experts (including OpenAI co-founder Wojciech Zaremba), plus 70 organizations that deal with AI (including Google DeepMind and Anthropic), signed a letter calling for global "red lines to prevent unacceptable AI risks." However, it was marked as much by what it didn't say as what it did.
"AI systems have already exhibited deceptive and harmful behavior, and yet these systems are being given more autonomy," the letter said, laying out a deadline of 2026 for its recommendation to be implemented: "An international agreement on clear and verifiable red lines is necessary for preventing universally unacceptable risks."
Fair enough, but what red lines, exactly? The letter says only that these parameters "should build upon and enforce existing global frameworks and voluntary corporate commitments, ensuring that all advanced AI providers are accountable to shared thresholds."
SEE ALSO: I tried learning from Anthropic's AI tutor. I felt like I was back in college. The lack of specifics may be necessary to keep a very loose coalition of signatories together. They include AI alarmists like 77-year-old Geoffrey Hinton, the so-called "AI godfather" who has spent the last three years predicting various forms of doom from the impending arrival of AGI (artificial general intelligence); the list also includes AI skeptics like cognitive scientist Gary Marcus, who has spent the last three years telling us that AGI isn't coming any time soon.
What could they all agree on? For that matter, what could governments already at loggerheads over AI, mainly the U.S. and China, agree on, and trust each other to implement? Good question.
This Tweet is currently unavailable. It might be loading or has been removed.Probably the most concrete answer by a signatory came from Stuart Russell, veteran computer science professor at UC Berkeley, in the wake of a previous attempt to talk red lines at the 2023 Global AI Safety Summit. In a paper titled "Make AI safe or make safe AI?" Russell wrote that AI companies offer "after-the-fact attempts to reduce unacceptable behavior once an AI system has been built." He contrasted that with the red lines approach: ensure built-in safety in the design from the very start, and "unacceptable behavior" won't be possible in the first place.
"It should be possible for developers to say, with high confidence, that their systems will not exhibit harmful behaviors," Russell wrote. "An important side effect of red line regulation will be to substantially increase developers’ safety engineering capabilities."
In his paper, Russell got as far as four red line examples: AI systems should not attempt to replicate themselves; they should never attempt to break into other computer systems; they should not be allowed to give instructions on manufacturing bioweapons. And their output should not allow any "false and harmful statements about real people."
From the standpoint of 2025, we might add red lines that deal with the current ongoing threats of AI psychosis, and AI chatbots that can allegedly be manipulated to give advice on suicide.
We can all agree on that, right?
SEE ALSO: Everything you need to know about AI companionsTrouble is, Russell also believes that no Large Language Model (LLM) is "capable of demonstrating compliance", even with his four minimal red-line requirements. Why? Because they are predictive word engines that fundamentally don't understand what they're saying. They are not capable of reasoning, even on basic logic puzzles, and increasingly "hallucinate" answers to satisfy their users.
So true AI red line safety, arguably, would mean none of the current AI models would be allowed on the market. That doesn't bother Russell; as he points out, we don't care that compliance is difficult when it comes to medicine or nuclear power. We regulate regardless of outcome.
But the notion that AI companies will just voluntarily shut down their models until they can prove to regulators that no harm will come to users? This is a greater hallucination than anything ChatGPT can come up with.
