iPhone 16 vs. iPhone 14: Comparing specs, screen size, and price
It's time for a good ol' iPhone 16 vs. iPhone 14 face-off.
Apple finally unveiled its next-gen flagship smartphone on Sept. 9 at its "Glowtime" event: iPhone 16.
With all the bells and whistles it boasts, including its on-trend Apple Intelligence AI, you may be wondering, "Wow, that iPhone 14 is looking old now."
The iPhone 16 comes with several upgrades to pique people’s interest, including a new Camera Control button, the addition of last year's Pro models' action button, better cameras, and other worthwhile improvements.
What does the iPhone 14 have? Well, none of these features. Despite only being two years old, the iPhone 14 may already be losing its appeal, even if it’s now more affordable.
If that’s the case, it’s time to prove it by breaking down the differences between the two iPhones.
iPhone 16 vs. iPhone 14: Price and specsThankfully, Apple has yet to increase the price of its base iPhone, meaning the iPhone 16 starts at the same price as the iPhone 14 when it was released in 2022.
As with all phones, the older they get, the cheaper they are, and that’s certainly the case with the iPhone 14.
The iPhone 16 is available from $799 at the Apple Store. Here are the specs:
Apple iPhone 16 lineup Credit: AppleA18 Bionic chip
6.1‑inch, 60Hz, 2,556 x 1,179-pixel OLED display
128G, 256GB, or 512GB storage
Up to 22 hours (video playback) battery
USB-C connection
The iPhone 14 starts at $599 and comes with the following specs:
A15 Bionic chip
6.1‑inch, 60Hz, 2,532 x 1,170-pixel, OLED display
128G, 256GB, or 512GB storage
Up to 20 hours (video playback) battery
Lightning port
A lot has happened since the iPhone 14, including the favorable switch from Lightning to USB-C. Two years can bring a lot of development, but not enough to offer more than a 60Hz display to the iPhone 16.
Still, the iPhone 16 is already showcasing its improvements.
iPhone 16 vs. iPhone 14: Screen sizeIf you’re used to the iPhone 14’s 6.1-inch display, you'll find the iPhone 16's display to be a familiar sight.
It sports the same size and 60Hz refresh rate, but a few updates help it shine over the iPhone 14’s screen — quite literally, too.
The iPhone 16 has 2,000 nits of peak brightness, while the iPhone 14 boasts 1,200 nits. The iPhone 16 also has a slightly better resolution: 2,556 x 1,179 compared to the iPhone 14's 2,532 x 1,170.
iPhone 14 Plus Credit: Stan Schroeder / MashableDespite brighter, slightly more detailed visuals, both displays are virtually the same.
iPhone 16 vs. iPhone 14: DesignYou could call the iPhone 16 a "Pro" model compared to the iPhone 14, as it's fitted with all the iPhone Pro features the 14 missed out on — and then some.
For one, it comes with Apple's Dynamic Island instead of the obsolete notch, which was reserved for the iPhone 14 Pro models at the time. You'll also find an Action button like on the iPhone 15 Pro models, which allows you to pick and choose a specific action as opposed to the usual Ring/Silent switch. Already, the iPhone 16 has a lot over the iPhone 14.
Apple iPhone 16 Camera Control button Credit: AppleBut it doesn’t stop there. The iPhone 16 now sports a new Camera Control button, which helps users access a range of neat camera features. It acts as a shutter button to quickly snap pictures, can zoom in and out of photos or videos using swiping gestures, and lets you control focusing on objects. It’s placed right below the power button on the left side—and it’s a handy feature to have.
The rear camera layout is a bit different this time. While the iPhone 14 has a diagonal design, the iPhone 16 harkens back to the iPhone 12’s vertical rear camera layout. It’s a subtle change but hardly a major difference.
iPhone 14 Plus diagonal rear cameras Credit: Stan Schroeder / MashableThe iPhone 14 has an aerospace aluminum finish and a glass back, but the iPhone 16 has a color-infused glass back, which makes it less prone to fingerprints and the colors less profound.
Speaking of, the iPhone 16 will come in the following color options: Ultramarine, Teal, Pink, White, and Black. The iPhone 14 isn’t too different, but they’re sharper to look at. It’s available in Midnight, Starlight, (Product) Red, Blue, Purple, and Yellow.
iPhone 16 vs. iPhone 14: PerformanceProcessing power is like night and day between the iPhone 14 and iPhone 16. That’s not to say the 14’s A15 Bionic chip isn’t capable of still offering excellent power, but there’s a clear gap compared to the iPhone 16’s A18 processor.
In fact, the A15 chip has been around since the iPhone 13, meaning it’s already showing its age. That said, Apple’s custom silicon chips can handle a lot, so there may not be a huge difference in your average day-to-day performance between the two rivals.
Still, the iPhone 16’s A18 chip offers even more, and it’s needed to handle the newly included Apple Intelligence and all of its AI features. This isn’t something the iPhone 14 can handle. No surprises here, but the iPhone 16 outranks the iPhone 14 in performance by being one of the fastest mobile chips on the market.
iPhone 16 vs. iPhone 14: Battery lifeThe iPhone 16 finally upgrades battery life, but only by an extra couple of hours over the iPhone 14. The real difference comes with the increased charging speeds.
The iPhone 16 is rated at 22 hours of battery life, while the iPhone 14 is stuck at 20 hours. That’s around a full day before needing to be plugged in. While it’s not by much, it’s handy to have the extra juice.
What’s more, the iPhone 16 ditches the Lightning port for a universal USB-C connection, which makes it easier to find a cable that fits into the slot.
SEE ALSO: The lightning cable is dead: Every product at the Apple event uses USB-C iPhone 16 vs. iPhone 14: CamerasHere's a quick look at the spec differences between both phones, starting with the iPhone 16:
48MP main (fusion with 12MP 2x Telephoto), 12MP ultra-wide
12MP TrueDepth front camera
And the iPhone 14:
12MP main, 12MP ultra-wide
12MP TrueDepth front camera
Cameras have come a long way since the iPhone 14, as the iPhone 16 comes with an "advanced dual-camera system." Forget the iPhone 14’s 12MP wide lens; the iPhone 16 boasts a 48MP wide camera and a 12MP telephoto lens (via a quad-pixel sensor) — two features the iPhone 14 can’t contend with.
This isn’t anything new, as the iPhone 15 also comes equipped with these lenses, but the iPhone 16 now offers a 12MP ultra-wide with ƒ/2.2 aperture and autofocus for improved low-light photography and macro photography. The iPhone 14’s 12MP ultra-wide with a ƒ/2.4 aperture is fine, but images generally come out slightly blurry and don’t do well when there isn’t enough light.
The iPhone 16’s main camera can take great shots, and the addition of a telephoto lens enhances zoom capabilities for more detailed images from afar.
iPhone 16 vs. iPhone 14: Software and AIIt’s hard for the iPhone 14 to compete in this area. However, it’s important to note that it’s expected to deliver iOS updates until 2029, meaning it’s not even halfway through its life cycle. That’s great OS support, but the iPhone 16 is a fresh start, so it will (obviously) last at least two years longer.
iOS 18 brings Apple Intelligence to the iPhone 15 Pro models and later, but only the iPhone 16 models will offer exclusive AI features. This takes the iPhone 14 out of the race, even if it gets an iOS 18 update and later.
Apple iPhone 16 showing Apple Intelligence Credit: AppleWhat fancy Apple Intelligence features is it missing out on? As WWDC 2024 showed off, there will be prioritized notifications that put the most important notifications at the top of your iPhone’s feed and even offer summaries of stacked notifications, AI image generation, and easy image search by typing a description, automatic audio transcriptions, and the ability to rewrite, summarize, and proof blocks of selected text. What's more, Private Cloud Compute protects your personal information whenever you access Apple Intelligence. Basically, your data is never stored.
There’s also Genmoji, which lets you create a custom emoji by simply typing it out via texting.
Apple Intelligence has many perks, but we won’t know how useful they are until we’ve had the chance to use them in the wild.
iPhone 16 vs. iPhone 14: Is it worth upgrading?Unlike other generations, there are significant differences between the iPhone 16 and iPhone 14 — even if there’s only a two-year divide. With a Dynamic Island, Action button, new Camera Control button, improved battery life, better cameras, and Apple Intelligence, the iPhone 16 is a true successor of the iPhone 14 in virtually every way (except for that 60Hz display).
The iPhone 14 is still a more-than-capable smartphone and does more than enough to offer the complete iOS experience, but the iPhone 16 kicks off a new era of AI for the iPhone, and that may just be worth it for those looking to keep up with the times.
The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro models weren't the only stars of Apple’s September event, as we also got a look at the Apple Watch Series 10 and Apple AirPods 4.

The Apple Watch Series 10 has officially been announced: Here's where to pre-order yours
Apple's Sept. 9 "It's Glowtime," event just wrapped, and the company has announced big updates to its extensive lineup of tech products including new iPhones, AirPods, and a brand-new Apple Watch.
The keynote kicked off with the announcement of the Apple Watch Series 10, which introduces a more lightweight design, a larger, easier-to-read display, and various health features that could prove to be game-changers for those with sleep-related issues. The Series 10 is available to preorder as we speak, and will be officially released on Sept. 20 for $399 (GPS) and $499 (GPS + cellular).
SEE ALSO: New Apple AirPods are coming, so current models are on sale now What's new in the Apple Watch Series 10?The Apple Watch Series 10 isn't a miraculous step up from the previous generation, but it's definitely the best place to start if you're new to tech wearables. For starters, the Series 10 is the thinnest Apple Watch yet but has the biggest, most readable display to date. It's nearly edge-to-edge and has about 30 percent more screen area compared to other Apple Watch iterations. The new watch introduces Apple's first-ever wide-angle OLED display, which makes it way easier to read your wrist bling at different angles, especially when you're just picking it up for a quick glance. The display is also more power-efficient, updating once per second when in Always On mode compared to the once-per-minute updates of previous models.
The watch also comes in some new finishes, including jet black, rose gold, and silver aluminum. You can also get it in a new titanium finish for a more formal look — that model is lighter than the regular Series 10, and one of Apple's newest carbon-neutral products. The Series 10 is the fastest-charging Apple Watch yet, only taking 30 minutes to get to 80 percent battery. The speaker system is also upgraded and allows you to play audio out loud, straight from the device itself.
The watch also employs the speedy S10 SIP processor and watchOS 11, along with some new software features like crash and fall detection, as well as better background noise impression. Health features are also getting a big update with sleep apnea alerts, which use sleep analytics to monitor your breathing over time, taking note of any disturbances and alerting you if you should see a medical professional. Underwater athletes will also benefit from the new depth app, tides app, and water temperature measurements.

The lightning cable is dead: Every product at the Apple event uses USB-C
If you update your Apple devices this fall, you'll finally be able to get rid of those old Lightning cables.
To no one's surprise, every new device shown off at the Apple event on Monday charges using USB-C, not Lightning. That includes the following:
iPhone 16 Plus (pre-order here)
iPhone 16 Pro (pre-order here)
iPhone 16 Pro Max (pre-order here)
AirPods Max (pre-order here)
Apple Watch Series 10 (pre-order here)
Again, none of this is shocking. Apple made the switch for all four of its new iPhone models last year. The Apple Watch also gets in on a technicality, as the device charges wirelessly using a USB-C dongle. The only news here is that the new AirPods 4 charge via USB-C, as do the re-released (but otherwise unchanged) AirPods Max. As recently as last summer, Apple was still releasing new AirPods Pro earbuds that charged via Lightning, so it's nice to see Apple slowly fixing this.
SEE ALSO: Apple finally unveils a hot pink iPhoneApple only switched to USB-C because of European Union regulations, so the company may not deserve heaps of praise for it, but it does end one of the more irritating tech sagas of our lifetimes. For years, people have had to keep Lightning cables around for the purposes of charging devices made by one company, while almost every other company on Earth switched to USB-C years ago.
Now, you'll be able to use one cable to charge almost any device you own. RIP Lightning, we won't miss you.
AirPods 4 announced – here's everything you need to know
The new iPhone 16 may have taken center stage at Sept. 9's Apple event, but it's not the only new product announcement to watch. Apple also revealed the fourth generation of its Apple AirPods.
Allow us to break down all the new details of the new earbuds.
SEE ALSO: Apple Event 2024: Everything announced, including iPhone 16, Apple Watch Series 10 Apple introduces AirPods 4As mentioned, the AirPods 4 have arrived. And the rumors were correct — Apple unveiled not one but two new AirPods 4 models. The new base model replaces the AirPods second generation, which Apple still sold, and a new higher-end AirPods 4 that replaces the third generation AirPods, which Apple is calling AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation.
With this release, Apple has officially introduced three tiers of wireless earbuds, with the more fully featured AirPods 4 serving as a mid-tier product between the base model and the AirPods Pro.
Here's everything Apple divulged about the new devices.
Features in the new AirPods 4 models Credit: AppleThe new powerful H2 Apple Silicon chip powers both AirPods 4 models. This brings massive audio quality improvements, like personalized spacial audio and voice isolation, which removes background noise, to the AirPods 4. Apple shared that users will notice "richer bass" and "crystal-clear highs."
The new AirPods 4 also comes with new Siri interactions. The H2 chipset capabilities allow AirPods 4 users to physically nod their heads "yes" or shake their heads "no" to answer questions when interacting with Siri while wearing AirPods 4.
In addition, users can control the audio playing through their AirPods4 via a sensor on the stem, which they can press to play or pause music, mute calls, and more.
Speaking of the AirPods stem, Apple has redesigned the AirPods 4 to make it more AirPods Pro-esque in aesthetic. The AirPods 4 has a shorter stem, making it less visible when worn. Apple also says it utilized "advanced modeling tools" and collected millions of data points to redesign the earbuds to fit every ear shape and size and make the AirPods 4 the most comfortable AirPods ever.
Credit: Apple AirPods 4 with Active Noise CancellationAs previously discussed, the base AirPods now have a higher-end model called AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation. This mid-tier AirPods has more features than the base model of AirPods 4 but isn't quite as powerful (or expensive) as the AirPods Pro.
Active Noise Cancellation on this higher-end AirPods 4 brings features like transparency mode and active audio to the device. These features reduce noise around the user and adjust the volume based on their surroundings.
Plus, a new Conversation Awareness feature automatically lowers the volume of the user's earbuds when they start talking.
A brand new AirPods 4 charging caseThe charging case for the AirPods also got a major update with both AirPods 4 models. Like most Apple devices now, Apple traded in the lightning cable for USB-C on the AirPods 4 charging case. Apple says the new case is the smallest, most portable AirPods case yet and comes with 30 hours of battery life.
Credit: AppleHowever, the AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation comes with a charging case with even more new features. The case with the higher-end AirPods 4 model can be wirelessly charged and has a built-in speaker to help with the Find My feature.
AirPods 4 price, preorder detailsAirPods 4 are priced at $129 for the base model and $179 for AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation. The new AirPods can be pre-ordered today and will be available September 20.
Apple also introduced new hearing health features for the AirPods Pro and new color options and a USB-C update for the AirPods Max.

You may assume that people in your demographic either aren't interested in dating or are already settled into long-term relationships. However, according to a recent Pew Research Center analysis of Census Bureau data, as of 2021, nearly 25 percent of 40-somethings in the U.S. have never been married. Additionally, only 22 percent of unmarried adults ages 40 to 44 were cohabiting couples.

With that in mind, it’s important to identify the kind of connection you’re looking for before you join any dating sites, apps, etc."

Once you've clarified your dating goals, Reeves recommends "joining a couple [apps] to start out with, so you can feel out what kind of user experience makes the most sense for you." She adds, "Of course, if you’re feeling overwhelmed, it’s totally fine to just join one to start."

No, Apple isn't discontinuing the Apple Watch Ultra — but it's not giving us the Apple Watch Ultra 3 yet, either.
Rather, all Apple could muster up in the way of upgrades in the past year that the Apple Watch Ultra 2 has been out is a new color for the Ultra 2 line: highly-awaited black. The scratch-resistant satin black titanium Ultra 2 (as well as a new black Milanese loop band) was announced at the Glowtime event on Sept. 9. Granted, the star of the show was definitely the iPhone 16, with a few other fun opening acts like the new Apple Watch Series 10 also scattered in — so someone had to take a backseat, I guess, and it was the Ultra 2 this time.
SEE ALSO: Apple Watch deals on older generations are worth checking out ahead of the Apple eventThe black version of the Apple Watch Ultra 2 is available to pre-order for $799 now, and will be available officially on Sept. 20. For anyone who already upgraded to the Ultra 2 last year, an upgrade probably sounds comical — however, this elegant, moody new colorway just might be the push some athletes need to go Ultra over competing sports watches.
Since there are no new technical upgrades within the Ultra 2 to analyze, let's at least recap the pros of the Ultra 2 in general: Compared to a regular Apple Watch, the Ultra is more rugged and sporty. Powered by Apple's S9 chip and highly accurate U2 GPS chip, the Ultra 2 tracks just about any workout or activity you could throw at it — including extreme ones, like scuba diving or surfing thanks to the watchOS 11 update. The watch offers clutch features like automatic running detection or personalized tips on when to push or when to recover. Whether you're a lifelong athlete or are just getting into cycling or surfing after making the Olympics your entire personality, the Ultra Watch 2 is a serious training companion.
Debuted last year, the Ultra 2 is also armed with double tap. A quick double tap of your thumb and index finger (pinching emoji style) can trigger actions like answering a call or stopping a timer, depending on the activity you're up to.
The new black Ultra 2 is still made with 95 percent recycled aluminum and, like all new Apple Watch finishes, can be made carbon neutral.
iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max launch at Apple 'Glowtime' event
Apple's iPhone Pro models have grown up. Say hello to the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max.
As expected, the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max offer a more advanced feature set compared to the entry-level iPhone 16 models — starting with the larger 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch displays, respectively.
Here are all the details Apple has divulged about the new Pro variants at the Sept. 9 Glowtime event.
iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max announced at Apple event 2024Apple's new iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max have the following new features:
New, larger displays: 6.3 inches for the iPhone 16 Pro, and 6.9 cinhes for the iPhone 16 Pro Max
New color: desert titanium, alongside the old (but slightly altered) black and white titanium, as well as natural titanium
Improved battery life
New A18 Pro chip which is 20 percent faster than previous generation, while being less power-hungry than before
Upgraded rear camera, with a new, 48-megapixel ultra-wide camera
Camera Control button that lets you fine-tune your photographs as you take them
Four new mics which enable features such as Audio Mix, which separates various audio elements from speech in your videos
4K video recording at 120 fps
There are, of course, numerous smaller upgrades, including Wi-Fi 7 support, new Photographic Styles, and the next-gen Ceramic Shield. Apple Intelligence will also be available on the device when it arrives in beta form next month.
There are, however, few features that are specific to the Pro models.
As for the differences between the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, the smaller model starts with 128GB of storage, while the Max starts with 256GB.
The battery life is also better on the iPhone 16 Pro Max: Apple rates it at 33 hours of video playback, and up to 105 hours of audio playback. The iPhone 16 Pro has up to 27 hours of video playback, and up to 85 hours of audio playback.
The price for the iPhone 16 Pro hasn't changed from last year. The iPhone 16 Pro starts at $999, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max starts at $1,199.

iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus unveiled at Apple 'Glowtime' event
The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus are here!
As expected, four new iPhones were announced at Apple's Sept. 9 "Glowtime" event on Monday: the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max.
SEE ALSO: Apple Event 2024: Everything announced, including iPhone 16, Apple Watch Series 10This year, the base-level, non-Pro iPhones have some nice bonuses they didn't have before. (Mashable's also got you covered for the announced details of the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max.)
Here's everything you need to know about the new iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus models.
Apple announces iPhone 16 and 16 PlusApple noted a bunch of cool new features while showcasing the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus, including:
Brand new ultramarine, teal, and pink colors
2,000 nits peak brightness
6.1-inch display for iPhone 16, 6.7-inch display for Plus
Customizable action button on the side of the phone (from iPhone 15 Pro)
New camera control physical feature that you can use to, well, control the camera
A18 Bionic chipset (iPhone 15 was A16)
$799 starting price for iPhone 16, $899 for iPhone 16 Plus
While the basic specs of the iPhone 16 tell most of the story, some deserve a deeper dive. The big one is the new camera control, a physical feature that sits flush with the side of the phone but doesn't really qualify as a "button." You can slide your finger across it to zoom in or out with the camera app open. It also supports both firm and light presses, which will do different things; for instance, a light press will bring up a UI overlay in the camera app with various settings to choose from.
Apple is also leveraging the new A18 Bionic chip (a two-generation jump from the A16 Bionic in iPhone 15) for Apple Intelligence features. Most of these have already been shown off and discussed ad nauseam, but Apple demonstrated a couple of new ones during the iPhone 16 presentation. For example, you can do visual Google searches from photos you've taken, so if you're not sure of a dog's breed, just snap a shot and ask Google. (You can also just ask the dog's owner.)
There's also detailed text searching for photos and videos in your library. If you want every photo on your phone of your dog sleeping on the futon, Apple Intelligence can theoretically pull those up for you.
Speaking of photos and cameras, Apple is fitting a 48MP main lens and 12MP ultra-wide lens on the back of the iPhone 16. There's also 2X telephoto zoom, spatial capture for videos and photos on Apple Vision Pro, and macro photography for gettin' up real close and taking photos of bugs or plants.
So, in summary, the iPhone 16 has upgraded cameras, a new button, a new thing that's kind of a button but not really, and Apple Intelligence. Most importantly, it comes in pink.

Apple finally unveils a hot pink iPhone
Apple's "Glowtime" — the keynote event outlining the company's new product and hardware innovations — just unveiled a brave new world for the iPhone 16: Hot. Pink.
Apple fans and viewers were on high alert for the chromatic reveal, after rumors circulated that the new shade range would finally embrace the old rainbow-inspired colors of the brand.
"PINK IPHONE THIS IS NAWT A DRILL!!!!" wrote one X user. "you guys we finally got a REAL PINK iphone 😭😭," scream-cried another.
SEE ALSO: Apple Event 2024: Everything announced, including iPhone 16, Apple Watch Series 10 Tweet may have been deleted Tweet may have been deletedIn 2022, Mashable's Elizabeth DeLuna noted Apple's complete cultural miss in not tapping into the hot pink moment — an aesthetic shift pegged to a boom in popularity of what was coined "Barbiecore" — in favor of brand safe, subdued pink tones.
"The 2010s were enamored with shades that whispered; the 2020s call for hues that scream," wrote DeLuna. "Cultural fascination with anemic millennial pinks and rose golds is dying. As the government wrenches away our bodily autonomy, and global warming threatens our existence, we are embracing the heat of hot pink."
This year — defined by the neon green of Brat Summer and the high-energy, joy-filled campaign of Kamala Harris — demands similarly exuberant color shifts. And Apple has finally listened.
Tweet may have been deletedUnfortunately, those eager to get their hands on the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max will have to pass on the new, unabashedly pink, which is only available on the standard models. The color is joined by two other jewel toned options, including a lighter, sea foam green color ("teal) and bright, cornflower blue ("ultramarine"). Standard black and white color ways are still available, too.

Hand your least favorite job over to Shark’s new robot cleaner
Cleaning floors is one of the most time-consuming household chores. If you have pets or kids (or pets and kids), it can also be incredibly unsatisfying — the moment your floors are finally shiny, someone throws some food or runs dirt through the house, and you’re back to square one.
It’s the kind of task we really want to hand over to the robots completely, and now, we can. Shark’s new PowerDetect™ 2-in-1 robovac is an advanced system that captures more dirt with less work from you.

You’ll hardly need to touch your PowerDetect™ robot for a full month. After every clean, it will return to its base to wash and dry the mopping pad, empty debris into a 60-day-capacity bin, and automatically refill its water tank for up to 30 days. The antimicrobial mopping pads are built to prevent bacteria and mold growth, setting the pad up for your next clean.
You can also remove some mental maintenance by creating a map of your home with no-go zones and setting a cleaning schedule.
Detailed cleaning with EdgeDetectRobot cleaners have a round shape that doesn’t typically play well with edges or corners in a home. Shark solved this dilemma with a genius EdgeDetect system that blasts air to push debris from the edges into the robot’s cleaning path. When mopping, the pad is extended for up to an inch to guarantee your floors are clean-clean, not just visibly clean.
The DirtDetect feature can sense areas that have more debris and boosts vacuuming performance, while StainDetect tracks out strains and takes additional passes to help remove the stain.

The bagless base of the PowerDetect™ traps 99.97 percent of dust and allergens* to help you breathe more easily [1]. iPhone 16 is getting Apple Intelligence — and it's free
Apple Intelligence is now coming to the iPhone 16 series — and it's free.
There was some debate about whether Apple's new suite of AI tools would cost a subscription fee. But VP of Software Craig Federighi confirmed at the Apple event on Monday, that it doesn't cost a thing — besides the actual cost of the iPhone 16 which starts at $799 and $899 for the iPhone 16 Plus.
SEE ALSO: Apple Event 2024: Everything announced, including iPhone 16, Apple Watch Series 10Apple's collection of AI features, branded as Apple Intelligence, made its debut at WWDC 2024, showcasing new AI-powered tools like a smarter Siri, notification summaries, Genmoji, and more. Initially, Apple Intelligence was reserved for the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max models. But now, the non-Pro versions of the iPhone 16, which arrive on Sept. 20, are getting it, too.
Apple Intelligence comes to iPhone 16Here are the Apple Intelligence features announced for the iPhone 16. As noted during the event, many of the Apple Intelligence features are processed on-device. For those that require cloud computing, Apple has dedicated Apple Intelligence servers called Private Cloud Compute that don't store user data and are used only to process requests.
Writing Tools: As Federighi said, Apple Intelligence is available "wherever you type," including third-party apps like Slack and Goodreads. The AI integration helps iPhone 16 users draft, rewrite, and proofread text.
Transcription and summaries in Notes: Apple Intelligence enables Apple users to record, transcribe, and summarize calls and audio recordings in the Notes and Phone apps.
Genmoji: With Apple Intelligence, you can create new emoji by typing a description or create new images with Image Playground.
Photos: In the Photos app, you can find an image you're looking for by typing a description or even a specific moment in a video. Apple also introduced a "Clean Up" tool that uses Apple Intelligence to remove unwanted objects or people that get in the way of your perfect shot.
AI-generated summaries: In Mail and notifications on the home screen, you can get a quick summary of your inbox in the Mail app. Apple Intelligence also provides AI-generated summaries of notifications and prioritizes them based on importance.
Behold, the new Siri: As promised, Siri is more natural, contextually relevant, and more personalized. Aside from voice prompts, you can type to Siri. The voice assistant also has more expansive knowledge for helping troubleshoot or accomplish something on your iPhone 16. Siri also has more contextual on-screen awareness, so it sees what you see on the screen, or a collection of photos you referenced.
Apple Intelligence on iPhone 16 will be available in beta in October as part of the iOS 18.1 update. It will start in the U.S. in English and then roll out to other countries.
What other Apple devices support Apple IntelligenceApple Intelligence is also compatible with the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, as well as last year's iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max models, with the iOS 18.1 update. It will also be available on iPad with the iPadOS 18.1 update, Mac with the M1 chip, and later on the macOS Sequoia 15.1 update.
If you were wondering, Apple briefly mentioned ChatGPT as an option for various AI features. But it's not expected to be available with the first Apple Intelligence update in iOS 18.

The Apple Watch Ultra 2 is now available in black
As well as unveiling the Apple Watch Series 10, Apple made a relatively minor announcement about its Watch Ultra series at its Sept. 9 "Glowtime" event: There's no Ultra 3, but the Apple Watch Ultra 2 is now available in "satin black." This is the first time the Watch Ultra has been available in multiple colors.
SEE ALSO: Apple Event 2024: Everything announced, including iPhone 16, Apple Watch Series 10The Watch Ultra will also get the watchOS 11 updates. That means it will now display Live Activities and more training features with Training Load. Additionally, the Watch Ultra 2 will detect sleep apnea. It costs $799.
The Watch Ultra was first introduced in 2022, as the more specialized (and expensive) Apple Watch option. It has a longer lasting battery life and a significantly larger display. As Apple marketing would tell you, the Ultra is designed as your companion for adventurous exercise such as hiking, swims, kiteboarding sessions, and with the updates to watchOS 11 snorkeling and scuba trips.
The Ultra has yet to receive a major upgrade from its original model, but remains the more technical and more expensive Apple Watch.

Apple Watch Series 10 introduces a new sleep apnea feature
Apple's "Glowtime" event kicked off with a dramatic unveiling of its new, sleeker Apple Watch Series 10, complete with new display, sound, and even health features.
Wedged within announcements of a slimmer screen and new watch faces was a brand new, "breakthrough" health sensor that can monitor and alert users who may suffer from sleep apnea, a condition affecting approximately 1 billion people worldwide.
SEE ALSO: Apple Event 2024: Everything announced, including iPhone 16, Apple Watch Series 10The sleep apnea monitor utilizes the device's accelerometer, which detects "real-time, motion-based" data to monitor when a user is having a period of disturbed or restless sleep. Combined with other real time health sensors, the watch will then notify wearers if it detects "consistent signs of moderate to severe sleep apnea," as well as resources for consulting a physician.
It will be accessible on Apple Watch Series 10, Series 9, and Ultra 2.
Bloomberg's Mark Gurman first leaked the announcement before the company's big event, but rumors of the feature have been circulating since last year. At that time, industry insiders believed the Apple Watch could be expanding its health sensors to cover not just sleep apnea, but also diabetes and blood pressure monitoring. It appears mastering sleep is the device's first frontier.
Apple says it's new feature will receive full approval from the FDA and other regulatory bodies soon, and will be available across 150 countries and regions this month, including the U.S., Europe, and Japan.
In February, Samsung introduced the first FDA-approved sleep apnea tracker for its new Galaxy Watch series.

The iPhone 13 has a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR display, a dual-camera system, and Apple's A15 Bionic chip. It’s not the latest and greatest, but it’s still a powerful and functional iPhone that should hold up for a few more years.

This iPhone has a 6.7-inch Super Retina XDR display, so it’s only slightly bigger than the 6.1-inch iPhone 13. It has an action mode for smooth video capture, an all-day battery life (up to 26 hours of video playback), and the A15 Bionic chip.

This phone runs on iOS 16, has 10 hours of battery life, and an OLED 6.1-inch display. It’s not scratch-resistant like the iPhone 13 and 14 models, but it's still a good deal if you're on a tight budget.

It's not the first time we've seen the Series 9 hit this price, but with the Series 10 on the horizon, it may be one of the last. This $100 markdown puts this watch $20 away from its lowest price ever, and offers a solid all-around experience of fitness features, great battery life, and a wonderfully bright and dim display to take you from day to night. If getting the latest and greatest isn't so much your speed, this is a good deal to move on. There was once a time where seeing an Apple Watch SE under $200 was rare, but that time has long passed. So much so, in fact, that this $189 sale price has basically been this watch's list price for about the past couple months. Still, for anyone who's looking for just the basics — we're talking no Double Tap, no always-on display, a smaller watch face, and fitness features that extend to basically a heart rate monitor and ECG app — this watch remains an excellent value.

For many people, the Apple Watch Ultra 2 actually offers much, much more than needed, meaning that even this $110 markdown doesn't make it a good enough reason to grab it. However, if you would feel comfortable calling yourself an intense outdoorsy type — like someone who might need up to 100 meters of water resistance, a corrosion-resistant titanium watch case, 36 hours of battery life, and 3,000 nits of brightness on a display for all the time in the sun you'll be spending — then springing for this watch might very well be worth it for you. ESPN's AI-generated recap failed to mention Alex Morgan's final professional match
ESPN's AI-generated recap had one job for U.S. soccer legend Alex Morgan's final professional match.
Instead of describing the 15th minute of the game, when Morgan poignantly removed her cleats and walked off the field while tearfully waving to the packed crowd as they chanted her name, the ESPN AI-powered game summary made no mention of Morgan at all.
"The recap provides a standard rundown of the outcome before going into who scored goals and how the action played out," wrote Awful Announcing, which spotted the glaring omission. "Nowhere in the 215-word recap is Morgan mentioned, let alone the fact that this was the two-time World Cup winner and Olympic gold medalist’s final pro match."
Tweet may have been deletedThe AI blurb of the match between the San Diego Wave (Morgan's team) and the North Carolina Courage was published at 8:52 p.m. ET on Sunday night. It wasn't updated until Monday morning at 8:59 a.m. ET to include mention of Morgan.
ESPN announced last week that it would be using AI to generate recap stories on espn.com and the ESPN app for the Premier Lacrosse League (PLL) and National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL). The initiative was touted by the company as a way of leveraging AI to cover "underserved sports" that wouldn't have had game recaps otherwise.
SEE ALSO: OpenAI clarifies: No, "GPT Next" isn't a new model.Throughout Morgan's illustrious career, the forward has been a leader in advocating for equal pay and elevating awareness of women's soccer. That ESPN's tool ostensibly designed to support the type of awareness Morgan has fought for didn't mention her is a level of irony that's hard to wrap one's head around.
Tweet may have been deletedIt's also fodder for critics of AI-automated writing, since it didn't take long for ESPN's tool to make a big public mistake. The initial announcement on X already received negative reactions from AI-wary sports fans, who are sick of low-quality, inaccurate AI-generated game analysis.
Tweet may have been deletedThe announcement said that recaps would be "reviewed by a human editor to ensure quality and accuracy." But apparently, Morgan's retirement didn't seem worth mentioning.
