Spotify Wrapped 2024: When it comes out, how to view yours

Mashable - Mon, 12/02/2024 - 16:33

Spotify users look forward to their Wrapped all year long. And for those who can hardly wait, don't fret: Spotify Wrapped 2024 is nearly here.

What is Spotify Wrapped?

Started in 2016, Spotify Wrapped is exactly what it sounds like: your year in Spotify, neatly wrapped up in a colorful — and uniquely shareable — interactive experience.

Spotify combs through your data and tells you your top artists, songs, albums, and more. For instance, you might find out you were in the Top 1 percent of Selena Gomez listeners. Spotify also creates a playlist of your Top 100 songs of the year.

SEE ALSO: Everything you need to know about Spotify Wrapped 2024 Tweet may have been deleted When will Spotify Wrapped be released in 2024?

The short answer: The exact date is a surprise. Spotify has never confirmed it, and let's face it — they probably never will. But we do know Spotify Wrapped will likely arrive quite soon.

It'll certainly come out the week after Thanksgiving. In 2023, it came out the Wednesday after Thanksgiving. So keep that in mind.

Tweet may have been deleted How to view your Spotify Wrapped

It's pretty simple to look at your Wrapped once it is released. All you have to do is open the app on your phone and click on the correct "Wrapped" icon. Typically speaking, it'll be a little button across a hard-to-miss banner. You can also go to the Wrapped section of the Spotify website.

And, of course, once you do view your Wrapped there's only one thing to do: share it with the internet, as has become obligatory.

Jaguars new branding was controversial. Wait till you see the new Jaguar concept car

Mashable - Mon, 12/02/2024 - 15:37

Jaguar, the car company equivalent of a three piece suit, seems determined to ruffle some feathers. A few days ago, Jaguar revealed a new, "fearless" and "exuberant" visual identity that seems to have divided the brand's fans into those who hate it and those who...well, we've seen a few positive takes, we just can't find them right now.

Now, hours ahead of the official unveiling at Miami Art Week, the company's new concept car has leaked, and we bet it's going to be equally divisive.

Well, at least it has a steering wheel of sorts. Credit: Coche Spias

The concept car, leaked at Coche Spias, is called the Design Vision Concept, and it's far more pink than any Jaguar we've seen. It also appears to be incredibly unfinished, with a very sparse interior and an exterior that somehow seems to lack polygons (yes, Tesla's Cybertruck and it's low-resolution look does come to mind).

Tweet may have been deleted

Things that stand out are the gargantuan grilles, both on front and back, super-slim headlights, wheels that would fit a semi, and the complete lack of a rear window.

Jaguar previously teased a few details from the Design Vision Concept, but now we get to see the car in full, and from all sides.

Tweet may have been deleted

Check out the full gallery over at Coche Spias, and make sure you scroll down to see the rest of the pics.

Jaguar actually has a new, electric production car in the works, and it does look a tiny bit like the Vision Concept, but we can't shake the feeling that the Jaguar of new is (currently) primarily interested in generating heated discussions on car forums.

I tried an AI Death Clock app to predict the date Ill die

Mashable - Mon, 12/02/2024 - 14:33

AI may have its detractors, but never let it be said that the technology isn't at least helping us predict our own demise.

Death Clock is a fun (!) AI app from San Francisco developer Brent Franson, founder of habit tracker Most Days, which broadly analyses health and behaviour to make a guess at a) the exact date of your death, and b) what's most likely to finally do you in.

SEE ALSO: Intel's 20-year-old AI ethics prodigy on the future of artificial intelligence

"Death Clock AI analyzes your life choices to determine when you will die, and how you can improve your habits to live even longer," reads the site. (The prediction bit is free, but if you want to unlock the ways you can supposedly lengthen your mortal years, you have to stump up for the $79.98 annual subscription.)

Needless to say, curiosity got the better of me. Would I live to the ripe old age of 90, or be mown down in my prime? I had to know!

Less of a horror movie situation involving cursed countdowns induced by malevolent spirits, the app itself is basically a series of health-related questions, ranging from age and lifestyle to eating and drinking habits.

I may have lied a little about my processed food intake. Credit: Death Clock

Once you've completed the questionnaire, you're greeted with a cheery series of grim reaper-illustrated tiles telling you the exact date you're going to die, and the things most likely to kill you. I got cardiovascular disease as my number one!

I pixelated the specifics because I'm superstitious. Credit: Death Clock

So, how accurate is this thing?

On the one hand, the company claims the AI model draws on stats from over 1,200 studies, including those carried out by universities like Stanford, Berkeley, and UCLA. On the other hand, the questionnaire feels a touch narrow. Although I was asked about the average age of my grandparents, for instance, I wasn't asked many details about family health in general. The app also didn't ask about my daily travel habits, or whether or not I have any particularly risky hobbies.

Ultimately, it said I'd die at 83, but with some tweaking — and that's where the annual fee comes in — I could draw things out until I hit 96. Rather than a harbinger of doom, it's probably better to view the app (at least the paid version) as a way of tweaking your daily habits to maximise your own health and longevity.

Moana 2 smashed Thanksgiving box office records

Mashable - Mon, 12/02/2024 - 13:03

Moana 2 just smashed a Thanksgiving box office record, answering an eight-year-old question of how far the Disney favourite will go.

The sequel to 2016's Moana picked up a whopping $221 million domestic over the five days of the holiday (Wednesday to Sunday), which trounces the records set by fellow sequels Frozen 2 ($125 million) and Hunger Games: Catching Fire ($109 million).

SEE ALSO: 'Moana 2' review: Almost as great as the original, except for one big thing

There's a lot of records smashed here, as The Hollywood Reporter has neatly chronicled— it's the best opening result for a Disney film at the box office ever, a record previously held by Frozen 2 in 2019. It's also reportedly the biggest takings for a film on the day of Thanksgiving; Moana 2 took home $28 million on the day while Frozen 2 made $15 million.

Featured Video For You The music of ‘Moana 2’: Auliʻi Cravalho goes ‘Beyond’

In addition, Moana 2 is now the top box office five-day debut ever, surpassing last year's The Super Mario Bros. Movie which made $205.6 million in the same amount of time (it's still the highest grossing movie adapted from a video game ever).

Audiences appear to love the return to the island of Motunui, with Auli'i Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson returning for the much awaited sequel. Rotten Tomatoes shows critics didn't love Moana 2, with a 65 percent Tomatometer score; Mashable's Belen Edwards described the film in her review as "almost as great as the original, except for one big thing." But audiences have the film at an 85 percent approval rating — and they're really showing up at the cinema.

Moana 2's global takings are sitting at $386 million after its opening weekend; Frozen 2 made a total of $1.4 billion globally by the end of its run. The big, thematically-charged question is, can it go beyond its fellow Disney sequel?
