All the good Chromebook deals post-Prime Day are at Best Buy
UPDATE: Oct. 10, 2024, 4:15 p.m. EDT This story has been updated with any Chromebook deals lingering at Amazon post-Prime Big Deal Days and Best Buy post-Flash Sale.
Amazon's everyday selection of Chromebook doorbusters leaves much to be desired for most of the year. And after a small spike in deals on a few decent low-end options from Acer, Asus, and Lenovo for Prime Big Deal Days on Oct. 8 and 9, we're back to extremely slim pickings. Don't be fooled by the models that are still on sale but sold by unfamiliar third-party merchants — we recommend skipping those.
SEE ALSO: We've been covering Prime sales for almost 10 years. Here are the best October Prime Day deals we've found. However, Best Buy is picking up some of the Chromebook deals slack (as usual). Though its 48-Hour Flash Sale has also officially concluded, there are still a few higher-end Chromebook deals sticking around, including Chromebook Plus options. We're tracking it all below.
Note: All deals marked with a 🔥 have dropped to an all-time low price.

The 16-inch Chromebook Plus 516 GE (short for "gaming edition") is a newer version of one of Google's cloud gaming laptops. It's equipped with a vivid 120Hz display, a cool RGB keyboard, 256GB of storage, and a zippier Intel Core 5 processor than the previous version had. (FWIW, we even found the non-Plus model with the older processor to be quite the solid daily driver, so you know you're in good hands.)

Most good Bluetooth speaker deals are still around the day after Prime Day
Though Amazon typically begins to rapid-fire drop Prime Day deals several days before the event actually hits, Bluetooth speaker deals trickled in like molasses.
The day after Prime Big Deal Days, however, is proving to be a different story. As of Oct. 10, we're seeing several awesome deals from JBL and Sony still around — including one or two with further price drops. Here are the ones you can still shop in the aftermath of October Prime Day.

Bose Ultra Open Earbuds hit new low price after Prime Day
Save $50: The Bose Ultra Open Earbuds are discounted at Amazon, even after Prime Day wrapped up. They're priced at $249, a new all-time low.

If you're in the market for really good earbuds, the Bose Ultra Open Earbuds — on sale at an all-time-low price at Amazon — might be your next purchase. The earbuds are on sale for $249, a 17% drop from the typical list price of $299.
The Bose Ultra Open Earbuds promise to deliver high-quality sound while keeping your ears open, as the name implies. That could be the perfect thing for runners, bikers, or folks who otherwise might not want to shut-out the world via noise cancelling.
Mashable's review of the Bose Ultra Open Earbuds gave them a really good 4.4 out of 5 rating.
Wrote RJ Anderson for Mashable:
"When Bose announced these headphones, they described them as the solution to the “one bud phenomenon” — aka needing to pull out one of your earbuds to interact with the world — and I was surprised to find that they lived up to the hype. Not only are the Bose Ultra Open Earbuds cool and functional, but the sound quality is great, the fit is incredible, and the comfort level is off the charts."
So if you ever wanted to cut down on taking out a single earbud, this might be just the deal you need.

Prime Day is over but you can still find deals on noise-cancelling headphones: Save on Apple, Beats, Sony
UPDATE: Oct. 10, 2024, 4:40 p.m. EDT This post has been updated with noise-cancelling headphone and earbud deals still live following October Prime Day.

Noise-cancelling headphones often get some of the biggest markdowns of the event, and this year was no exception.
Some big-ticket deals, like the markdowns we saw on Bose QuietComfort Ultra or Sony XM5 headphones, are no longer live, but you can still save on popular picks from Apple, Beats, Sony, and more.
Between Prime Day and Black Friday, fall is the ideal time to upgrade your headphones. Maybe yours took a hit during your summer travels. Or perhaps you're on campus and realizing you need a pair to deal with a noisy roommate. Either way, we've got you covered on the best noise-cancelling earbuds and headphones to shop on sale.

AirPods Max are stylish headphones with easy connectivity to boot. Just like the rest of the AirPods collection, the AirPods Max connect effortlessly to iOS devices, plus you don't need an auxiliary app to control them, plus they have excellent audio quality.
However, a big hang-up we have with the AirPods Max is their price tag —at $549, you can find headphones with the same quality (and much better batteries) for far cheaper. However, when the AirPods Max are on sale, we're all in. Following Prime Big Deal Days, you can still get the original AirPods Max for $394.99, saving an impressive $154.01 for 28% off. This is just $12.29 short of their lowest price ever, according to their Amazon price history. And if you're interested in the new AirPods Max with USB-C, they're on sale, too.

The Beats Studio Buds + are some of our favorite mid-range noise-cancelling earbuds, but at $119.99, their lowest price ever, they're inching ever-closer to being a budget pick. Since they're made by Apple, they pair just as quickly with iOS devices as a pair of AirPods, but if you're an Android user, they're also compatible with Google Fast Pair. Their sound is well-rounded and not too bass-heavy — overall they're an excellent pair of headphones at full price, and even better at $120.

Samsung Galaxy Prime Day deals are still live: Save $250 on cult-favorite Z Flip 6 AI phones
UPDATE: Oct. 10, 2024, 4:00 p.m. EDT This article has been updated with the Samsung Galaxy deals still live following the October Prime Day event.

It officially ran from Oct. 8 to 9, but in typical Amazon fashion, there were tons of early deals to shop ahead of the event and now plenty of deals to shop after — especially on Samsung Galaxy products.
It's no surprise, really, as Samsung is one of the brands that usually offers major discounts during big shopping events. July's Prime Day even aligned with Galaxy Unpacked, which made the perfect recipe for heavily discounted Samsung products. This time around, we saw lots of deals on older (and even some newer) Galaxy Watch models, plus heavy discounts on Galaxy Tab and Galaxy phone models — and that includes the brand's new AI smartphones. We were really hoping for a good deal on the Galaxy Ring (which we love), but only saw one very slight discount on one random size (if you wear a size 9 and like the color black, you can still save $29). Bummer. There's always Black Friday.
The Prime Big Deal Days event may have ended, but the deals are far from over. We're still keeping track of the best Samsung Galaxy Prime Day deals still live below. Snag them while you can.
Note: Deals with a strikeout were either sold out or expired at the time of writing.

Released early this year, the Samsung 16-inch Galaxy Book4 Pro packs all the bells and whistles (an Intel Core Ultra 7 155H CPU with Intel Arc Graphics, a 3K AMOLED touchscreen, AKG Quad speakers, a new Knox security chip). The 16-inch base model has 16GB of RAM, 1TB of storage, and a 21-hour battery life and typically retails for $1,749.99. During Prime Big Deal Days, however, the price dropped to just $1,274.99, and that deal is still live for now. That's 27% in savings.

Samsung's pastel-colored Z Flip 6 is making flip phones cool again. It's also a much more reasonable size than the huge Samsung Z Fold 6. Part of the new generation of AI-powered Samsung phones, this trendy device has become a cult hit for its cute aesthetics alone. However, it's so much more than a pretty face. The FlexWindow on the front lets you check messages and notifications without opening the phone, and it has a ton of nifty AI and photography features. It can even act as a handheld translator device, making it ideal for social creators who love to travel. This phone isn't even on sale at Samsung, so head to Amazon while it's on sale for almost $250 off the regular price.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab A9+ may not be as fancy as the brand's S9 lineup, but not everyone is looking for a tablet that practically doubles as a computer. If you just want something reliable that can handle the basics without breaking the bank, check out the A9+. Our friends at PCMag (which is owned by Mashable's publisher, Ziff Davis) called it the "best low-cost Android tablet you can buy," noting that it "succeeds at everything a low-cost tablet should."
It sports an 11-inch screen, quad speakers powered by Dolby Atmos, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 processor, and expandable storage up to 1TB. The base model is already pretty affordable at its full price of $219.99. But post-Prime Day, you can grab it for only $149. That's 32% in savings and its lowest price ever.

Since it's no longer the latest and greatest smartwatch in the Samsung Galaxy lineup (that would be the Galaxy Watch 7 and Galaxy Watch Ultra), we've been seeing some pretty sweet deals on the Galaxy Watch 6. Post-October Prime Day, you can pick up the 40mm version with Bluetooth for only $169.99, which is 43% in savings and just $8 more than its all-time low (which it hit during the official event).
The sixth installment of the Galaxy Watch was named the "king of the Android smartwatch mountain" by Mashable Tech Reporter Alex Perry when it launched last year. It features improved sleep and fitness features over its predecessor, including a nuanced breakdown of sleep habits, sleep coaching, personalized heart rate zones, and irregular heart rate notifications. It also lasts longer on a single charge and has a 20 percent larger display than previous models.

The versatile Coleman OneSource Rechargeable Built-In Pump Camp Shower Sprayer might be your new camping BFF, serving as both a rinse-off solution and a portable charger.

YouTube responds to accusations that it’s been 'hiding' the skip button on ads
Recently, the internet was worried that YouTube was phasing out the skip button on ads. It turns out that's not really true.
In a statement to The Verge, YouTube confirmed that the option to skip some ads isn't going away, but is rather getting a visual overhaul. According to a YouTube spokesperson, the site is trying to clean up the way ads look, and part of that is by changing the skip button into a progress bar on the bottom of the video. This will apparently be the case for both desktop and mobile users.
SEE ALSO: Not so short, YouTube Shorts announces 3-minute videosYouTube needed to address this in a statement because various places such as Reddit and AndroidPolice noticed that the skip button wasn't appearing on desktop or mobile. On desktop, things got particularly interesting, as it appeared that the YouTube video player was drawing a black rectangle over the skip button, almost as if to discourage people from using it. However, according to YouTube, that's not what's happening.
As always, you can avoid this entirely by paying for YouTube Premium. Such is life.

SEE ALSO: I've tested over 20 robot vacuums and these are the best for every budget in 2024The universalization of the self-emptying dock has also made it a much more affordable feature in general, even when no discount is present — so Prime Day deals on these robovacs mean you don't have to pay more than $300 or $400 to be off dustbin duty.
The newest robot vacuums do much more than self-empty, though. The automatic maintenance feature to look for on Prime Day or Black Friday would be self-washing and drying mopping pads. iRobot, Shark, Roborock, Eufy, Ecovacs, and more have at least one robot vacuum and mop combo that deals with its own dust and dirty mopping pads all in the same dock. These are obviously pricier than hybrids that make you do this manually, so to have a few hundred dollars knocked off the price is game-changing.
Though Prime Big Deal Days officially came to an end, almost all of the best deals on self-emptying robot vacs are still live. We're tracking the top discounts below. Note: All newly added deals are marked with a ✨, while deals with a 🔥 have dropped to an all-time low price. Deals with a strikeout were either sold out or expired at the time of writing.

Read our full review of the Eufy X10 Pro Omni.
One of our absolute favorite robot vacuum deals from Prime Big Deal Days (and one of Senior Shopping Reporter Leah Stodart's favorite robot vacuums that she tested in 2024), the Eufy X10 Pro Omni checks an impressive list of boxes at a surprisingly digestible price. It empties itself, of course, but is also one of those models that washes and dries its own mopping pads rather than making its owner do so manually — a clutch maintenance perk not often seen in this price range.

Fidelity data breach compromises more than 77,000 customers
One of the largest financial services and asset management companies has just been breached.
According to a new notice filed with the Office of the Maine Attorney General, Fidelity Investments was targeted in a data breach. More than 77,000 customers have had their sensitive personal information compromised.
SEE ALSO: Internet Archive data breach: Hacker claims to ‘See 31 million of you' on Have I Been Pwned"Between August 17 and August 19, a third party accessed and obtained certain information without authorization using two customer accounts that they had recently established," Fidelity said in a letter sent to affected customers.
Upon noticing the breach on August 19, Fidelity says it immediately cut the unauthorized party's access to its systems.
It's unclear as to what specific personal data was stolen. It's also unclear how a bad actor was able to access private data tied to 77,099 customer accounts by "using two customer accounts that they had recently established."
According to Fidelity, customers' accounts were not compromised. The company also shared that those who were affected make up a small subset of its more than 50 million customers.
Fidelity will be providing the affected customers with two years of credit monitoring services.
This Fidelity data breach marks yet another instance of users' data being compromised just in this week alone. Comcast, MoneyGram, and the Internet Archive all notified customers and users that their data had been stolen in a data breach.

Prime Day might officially be over, but there are still deals to be found on Amazon. The Sonos Ray compact soundbar is on sale for $169, for instance, which is a nearly 40% drop from its typical list price of $279.
You'll also be getting a quality product that's significantly less expensive than the premium soundbar options. Mashable's review gave the Sonos Ray a very solid 3.9 score out of five.
"The Sonos Ray soundbar is sleek, petite, crisp (in make and sound), and an all-around small but mighty soundbar to add to your entertainment system" wrote Han Schneider in that review.
SEE ALSO: The Sonos Ray brings into question why soundbars have to be so large and unwieldyOverall, Mashable's review noted that the Sonos Ray sounded great, was easy to set up, and was a cheaper option that discarded some of the frills folks might not need. And now that cheap option is even cheaper.

October Prime Day is over but these Apple AirTag deals are still live
UPDATE: Oct. 10, 2024, 2:35 p.m. EDT This post has been updated with AirTag and Apple deals still live after the end of October Prime Day.
Best AirTags deals live after Prime Big Deal Days Best overall AirTags deal Apple AirTags (4-pack) $79.98 at Amazon (Save $19.02) Get Deal Best individual AirTags deal Apple AirTag $24.99 at Amazon (Save $4.01) Get DealLIVE BLOG: Get the latest news on October Prime Day 2024
Now that October Prime Day (aka Prime Big Deal Days) is over, it may be tempting to wait until Black Friday to round out your holiday shopping list, but there's a pretty good reason to shop leftover deals while they're still live: the holiday travel season.
SEE ALSO: The best Amazon Prime Day deals still live: Roomba, Apple, Dyson, and other top brandsApple AirTags could be what protects you from a lost phone or suitcase during the hectic holiday season, making them a good item to pick up ahead of Black Friday — and while they're still on sale. Even though Prime Day is over, both the four-pack of AirTags and individual AirTags are still at the same prices we saw for the entirety of the sale.
AirTags are especially great for Apple users, as they're easy to set up, and give you more range thanks to the way the tracker uses any Apple device with Find My to calibrate its location, even when it's far away from your particular device.
SEE ALSO: Amazon just dropped a new Fire HD 8 tablet — and it's already 45% off for October Prime DayWe do want to note there many people had concerns that these devices could easily (and quietly) track people without their knowledge, but Apple has worked with Google to make sure that anyone — AirTag user or not — is notified via their device that an unrecognized AirTag is traveling with them.
Obviously, these safety concerns aren't limited to just AirTag users, but we always think it's best to go in with as much knowledge about a product as possible before buying. With that said, here are the best AirTag deals following Prime Big Deal Days, plus some Apple deals that are still live.

If you want the best bang for your buck, this four-pack of AirTags provides a great value. At $79.98 for four AirTags, each one comes out to about $20, saving you $5 per AirTag over buying them individually — that's $20 in total savings. While this isn't the absolute lowest price we've seen this four-pack hit, it is the same deal that was live during October Prime Day itself. Plus, having multiple AirTags gives you the flexibility to use them on your luggage, your keys, your pets — basically, your options open up.

You might already own several AirTags and just want one more, or you maybe you've never owned a Bluetooth tracker before and want to try one out before buying four of them. Whatever your reason, $5 off an Apple AirTag is a nice bonus, if not a huge markdown. We typically don't see them fall much lower than $25, even in the midst of shopping holidays.

Foodi, Creami, Thirsti, you name it — if there's a Ninja appliance that you've been thinking about splurging on, it was probably on sale for Prime Big Deal Days. Actually, even if you spaced and missed out on the two-day shopping event, there's a pretty good chance it's still on sale a day after things have wrapped.
Sadly, the beloved TikTok sensation, the Ninja Creami, is no longer at its Prime Day price, but plenty of other countertop appliances from Ninja are — including the Ninja Thirsti and Ninja Woodfire pizza oven.

One of the juicier discounts we found on any Ninja Foodi during Prime Big Deal days was a 43% slash on the 8-in-1 XL air frying oven. It has since sold out, but the 10-in-1 Foodi is still at a decent discount with $80 off. The 10-in-1 oven has buttons for air fry, air roast, bake, whole roast, broil, toast, bagel, dehydrate, reheat, and pizza, and it can do two of those at once. The two-shelf design is seriously spacious, fitting two 12-inch pizzas, a tray of veggies and a five-pound chicken, or a full 12-pound turkey if you remove the shelf.

Amazon Prime Day vs. Black Friday: When are the deals better?
UPDATE: Oct. 10, 2024, 2:00 p.m. EDT Prime Big Deal Days 2024 has officially ended, but some deals are still live — the list at the bottom of this post has been updated with the best ones.
The difference between Prime Day and Black Friday — their roots, anyway — probably isn't a mystery to anyone who has dabbled in online shopping before.
Most of us know that Black Friday is the big sale frenzy that happens around Thanksgiving as a precursor to the holidays, and that almost every store you can think of participates. Alternatively, the name "Prime Day" suggests that the event is indeed an Amazon-specific event made up by Amazon for members of its Prime subscription.
SEE ALSO: Target Circle Week is back...just in time for October Prime DayThe lines between these two shopping holidays also aren't quite as blurred as they are between Black Friday and Cyber Monday, which have become pretty indistinguishable from each other due to 1. being just a few days apart on the calendar, and 2. Black Friday relying just as heavily on online shopping as Cyber Monday does.
But back to the question at hand. Most people aren't concerned with these shopping holiday semantics. The people just want to know: Does Prime Day or Black Friday have better deals?
Does Amazon have better deals on Prime Day or Black Friday?Amazon hypes Prime Day up so much that you can't help but assume those two days in July and two days in October are its Olympics. In the case of October Prime Day, specifically, Amazon can't possibly have the bandwidth to turn around and do the same damn thing a month later for Black Friday, right?
Jeff Bezos is heard cackling in the distance.
Amazon price history shows us that, in many cases, Amazon does go as hard for Black Friday as it does for Prime Day. It's not uncommon to plug the URL for any popular item from Amazon into price tracker Camelcamelcamel to see a handful of very consistent dips to that item's all-time low pricing — those few instances being middle of July (Prime Day) and the end of November (Black Friday), plus a common third dip in mid-October (Prime Big Deal Days, which we know is essentially another Prime Day).
SEE ALSO: What not to buy during Amazon's October Prime Day saleBlack Friday deals also tend to be a little more accessible than Prime Day deals, as you don't have to be a paying Prime member to unlock them (most of the time) like you do for Prime Day deals. (It's the same story for Walmart's Walmart+ events and Walmart's Black Friday sale, though being a paid Walmart+ member still has its perks, like getting early access to Black Friday deals.)
In terms of what's on sale, there's a ton of overlap between Prime Day and Black Friday deals. Robot vacuums, headphones, Apple devices, laptops, and kitchen gear are likely to get similar treatment for both, so if you find a stellar deal on one of those items, there's probably no need to hold out until the other event to see if the deal is better then.
A few categories are better to shop on Black Friday than Prime DayA few categories do play favorites, though. Black Friday is a better time of year to find TV deals — aside from its own Fire TVs, Amazon doesn't go super hard with TV deals at any time throughout the year. Best Buy has a much wider selection on its (virtual) shelves at any given point, specifically offering way more big screen premium options than Amazon. Though Best Buy does hold competing sales during Prime Day, it tends to put on the bigger show during Black Friday.
Toy deals also tend to pop off more heavily for Black Friday in true nostalgic holiday prep. If you're looking to sign up for a streaming service for cheaper than usual, many of the big ones (Hulu and Peacock come to mind) are almost guaranteed to have a Black Friday sale, while they wouldn't exactly have any reason to participate in Prime Day.

No, Starlink isn't actually 'free' for Hurricane Helene victims
Elon Musk's 30-day offer of free Starlink internet to the thousands of displaced and disconnected Hurricane Helene victims isn't as good as it sounds.
First reported by the Register and Gizmodo earlier this week, the "free" Starlink trial is more like a classic marketing ploy than a legitimate option for disconnected residents. The offer doesn't include the satellite internet's required hardware — including a $350 Starlink terminal kit — and, at the end of the 30 days, customers could be auto-enrolled in the $120-per-month subscription plan.
Tweet may have been deleted"Please note," the Hurricane Helene support page reads. "A Starlink kit is required to access this free service. If you do not already have a Starlink kit, you will need to purchase one from starlink.com/residential or an authorized retailer such as Best Buy or Home Depot." The offer does extend a 30-day credit to existing customers, however. But they still have to create a help ticket in order to receive a waiver at an undetermined date, according to the company.
All of this is gambling on individuals having access to stable electricity or generators. One week after Hurricane Helene's devastation, more than 850,000 residents across seven states were still powerless, and restoration efforts are ongoing as a second storm, destructive Hurricane Milton, just touched down in Florida.

On Tuesday, Starlink announced it was unlocking Direct to Cell satellites, which enables SMS text messaging, for T-Mobile users ahead of Hurricane Milton.
A 10-foot skeleton named Steve is on sale at Walmart
Save $75: Walmart's 10-foot-tall skeleton named Steve is on sale for $174, down from its typical list price of $249. It might just be the next best thing to Home Depot's viral, sold-out giant skeleton.

Walmart might have the deal to make all your spooky season dreams come true. Its 10-foot skeleton decoration, dubbed Steve, is $75 off on the heels of Amazon's Prime Day.
Typically, Steve will run you a $249 but its price is reduced 30 percent to $174.
Walmart's giant, 10-foot skeleton is not the viral giant skeleton you might've seen everywhere for the past few years. Home Depot's Skelly has become a Halloween staple since its debut in 2020. But Skelly, which retails for $299, is currently out of stock, meaning ol' Steve might be your next best option.
Still, Walmart's Steve is pretty massive and can be put into different poses — so let your creativity run wild this Halloween season.
The 'hear me out' cake TikTok trend, explained
You might be curious why people are putting print-outs of cartoon characters into cakes. And, well, the answer is a tiny bit uncomfortable: It's basically confessing an attraction to the strangest characters, people, or things
So the so-called "hear me out" cake is basically the people somewhat jokingly saying, "Hear me out; I would hook up with this character."
The trend follows a few key beats. Two or more people — sometimes large groups — take turns placing skewered print-outs of their "hear me outs" into a cake. Oftentimes, things get more unhinged or obscure as the TikTok goes on. You might hear the dad from Finding Nemo, a background character in Spongebob, or the literal number eight, for instance.
The trend has proven to be really popular, seemingly as viewers either find themselves agreeing or being shocked. Here's one from the couple account @MeghanandJack that's racked up some 3.4 million views.
Here's a group of friends that posted one that's garnered nearly 28 million views.
There are lots of videos with lots of views.
It's not totally clear where the trend started, exactly. Crush cakes have been a thing online for a while, where people put their crushes into cakes. Today noted that one of the earliest videos with a crush cake and the phrase "hear me out" came from user @desgovname in late September. The video initially highlighted K-Pop idols before transitioning to the types of unconventional crushes typically featured on "hear me out" cakes.
So, yes, that really is what's happening — people are posting their strangest crushes via skewers in a cake. The internet is a wild place.
