If youve been waiting for the M5 MacBooks, we have bad news

Fri, 07/11/2025 - 22:10

Apple's next batch of upgraded MacBooks might not come out until next year, but it might be smart to buy one right now anyway.

A new report courtesy of Bloomberg's Mark Gurman indicated that MacBooks with the as-yet-unreleased M5 chip may not ship later this year as initially expected. Instead, they could be delayed to 2026. While we don't know this for sure yet, it's worth considering as you think about what you want your next laptop purchase to be.

SEE ALSO: The best Prime Day MacBook deals: MacBook Airs start at just $599 on day 4

With that in mind, it's worth pointing out that there are plenty of good Prime Day (or Prime Day-adjacent) deals on MacBooks right now. For instance, you can get the M2 MacBook Air for just $699 at Best Buy right now. I reviewed that one back when it launched in 2023 and actually still use it as my personal device on a daily basis. It's just as fast and user-friendly now as it was then, too.

Heck, if you have a bit more cash on hand, the M4 MacBook Air is just $849 right now on Amazon. These are expensive machines normally, so if you don't feel like waiting until next year, it might be smart to hop on one of these deals now.

I use my phone less at night thanks to this alarm clock (which is on sale for Prime Day)

Fri, 07/11/2025 - 21:48

SAVE 18%: As of July 11 (the last and final day of Amazon's Prime Day extravaganza), you can get the Hatch Restore 3 for $139.99, down from $169.99. That's an 18% discount and $30 in savings.

Opens in a new window Credit: Tabitha Britt Hatch Restore 3 $139.99 at Amazon
$169.99 Save $30 Get Deal

Today, July 11, is the last and final day of Amazon Prime Day (this year, it was a four-day event, starting July 8), but Amazon isn’t holding back on the deals. We’re still seeing new record-low prices on products from Apple, Sony, Samsung, and more.

One of the best deals I’d like to point out is on the Hatch Restore 3, which is down to $139.99, a $30 savings from its usual $169.99 price. In fact, it's proven to be one of the most popular Prime Day deals of 2025. This is the best price we’ve seen on this smart alarm clock since its release in January of this year (which is exactly when I got mine).

SEE ALSO: Prime Day 2025: Live updates on the top deals

The Hatch Restore 3 is an alarm clock, but it’s also much more than that. And as a person who is chronically online for work and doom-scrolling before bed, I was looking for a way to break my phone addiction and get more sleep. (One second it’s 11 p.m. and the next thing you know it’s 2 a.m.?!)

The coolest feature of this alarm clock is that it has an unwind mode, so you can prep for bed. It gives you the option to listen to literal bedtime stories or set meditations to help you wind down and clear your head. I just set the green noise to two hours, and that usually does the trick. (It's worth noting that the premium content, like bedtime stories and guided meditations, requires a Hatch+ subscription, but a free trial is included so you can test it out.)

The Hatch Restore 3's light is fully customizable to match your mood or routine. I chose a fun, vibrant pink here to show off its features. Credit: Tabitha Britt

As for the actual alarm itself, it’s not a jarring buzzer like we had in our rooms as kids (at least I did). This alarm clock gradually brightens with soft light and plays gentle sounds to help you wake up. You can choose from multiple tones, set the volume, and change the color of the light to help you wake up how you want. And while you set these routines up in the app, the clock itself is designed for sleepy hands — you can start your routine or hit snooze with a large, simple button right on top, so you never have to reach for your phone.

If you're looking to reclaim your evenings and mornings from your phone, this record-low price makes today the perfect day to finally do it.

X faces criminal investigation in France over potential algorithm manipulation

Fri, 07/11/2025 - 21:44

French officials have launched a criminal investigation into Elon Musk's social media platform, X, following a probe exploring whether or not the platform's algorithm was manipulated for the purposes of "foreign interference."

The platform is accused of altering its algorithms and fraudulently extracting data from users, said Paris prosecutor Laure Beccuau. The investigation will look into possible "organized data system manipulation," or what is considered under French law to be criminal hacking, a crime that carries a sentence of 10 years in prison and a $350,000 fine. French officials are investigating the platform itself, a legal entity related to the company, and several unnamed individuals. The case was brought forth by a lawmaker and a civil servant, reported Politico, joining other members of the French Parliament who have raised issue with Musk's X, including recent antisemitic comments by AI chatbot Grok.

SEE ALSO: Linda Yaccarino is out as X CEO

The Paris prosecutor's office said in a statement issued Friday that France's national gendarmerie, a branch of the armed forces, was assigned to the case earlier this week. Investigators will be looking for evidence that X altered its content display algorithms to highlight themes favorable to the far right, Le Monde reports, and promoted posts from far-right candidates in recent European elections. Earlier this year, Musk made a virtual appearance at a rally for the German far-right party Alternativ für Deutschland (AfD), saying he believed the party was "the best hope for Germany."

France first opened up the inquiry in February, in response to a letter sent by French lawmaker Éric Bothorel. "Elon Musk's personal involvement in the management of the platform, but also in several elections concerning European countries, represents a real danger and threat to our democracies," he wrote. The probe was also investigating a complaint that X has experienced a surge in "hateful, racist, anti-LGBT+, and homophobic political content," which could "skew the democratic debate in France."

In 2023, the European Union Commission opened an investigation into Musk for breaching multiple provisions, including "information manipulation," of the recently passed Digital Services Act (DSA).

Yes, its the last day of Prime Day — dont miss last-chance deals

Fri, 07/11/2025 - 21:27

We made it to day four out of four, everyone. There are now just hours left on Amazon Prime Day 2025 — the longest Prime Day to date.

With this sale, Amazon brought us everything from new record low prices on AirPods, first-time price drops on robot vacuums, cheap TVs, plenty of deals under $50, and of course, a good selection of deals on the boring essentials. The deals have been so good that Mashable's team couldn't resist picking up a few for ourselves.

SEE ALSO: Prime Day 2025 ends tonight! Get live updates on the top deals.

As expansive as the deals have already been, the sale isn't over just yet. With the clock ticking down to the end of Prime Day day four, here's what you need to know.

When does Prime Day end?

Amazon Prime Day may not end at midnight, depending on where you live — the sale officially ends at 2:59 a.m. ET on July 12 and 11:59 p.m. PT on July 11. We typically see a handful of deals stay live after a major sale, but not generally those that go on sale especially for Prime Day, like Kindles and Echo devices. If you've been waiting to score the best possible price, we recommend shopping before the sale ends tonight while many of the deals that were live on day one are still live.

Amazon's competitors are doing their best to compete with the mega-retailer by extending their counterprogramming past July 11. Target Circle Week is on through July 12, while Walmart and Best Buy's sales are on through July 13. While Amazon does have the greatest volume of deals, they don't have the best in every category. Walmart has had the USB-C AirPods Max down to $399 for days (though they're now coming in and out of stock) while Best Buy dropped the M2 MacBook Air down to $699 during their sale.

Best Prime Day deals still live

Some of the best deals of Prime Day are still live as we head into the final hours of the sale, but it's likely many of them won't be come tomorrow. With so many deals still live, it's easy to get overwhelmed, which is why we've pulled our top 10 deals still live, from TVs to Kindles to streaming deals. Check them out below:

Best Apple deal Our pick: Apple AirPods Pro 2 $149 at Amazon
$249 Save $100 Get Deal

Read our full review of the Apple AirPods Pro 2.

If we had to pick just one Apple deal to shop during Prime Day 2025, it would be this: The newest AirPods Pro are marked down to the we-can't-believe-it price of $149.

"These are pretty much must-have wireless earbuds if you're in the Apple ecosystem. If you're on a budget — or if you really don't like noise-cancelling — you can grab the regular AirPods for the also-insane price of $89. But for most of us, it's the AirPods Pro 2. They sound great and have stellar noise cancellation — what more do you need to know?" — Timothy Beck Werth, Mashable Tech Editor

Best laptop deal Our pick: Microsoft Surface Laptop 7, 13.8-inch (Snapdragon X Elite, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD) $988 at Amazon
$1,399.99 Save $411.99 Get Deal

Read Mashable's full review of the 13.8-inch Microsoft Surface Laptop 7.

"Microsoft's 13.8-inch flagship PC is our favorite Windows laptop, combining a slick, sophisticated design with peppy performance and an all-day battery life. (Literally: It lasted nearly 23 hours in our testing.) This variant has a high-end Snapdragon X Elite processor, 16GB of RAM, and 512GB of storage — our ideal baseline specs for most everyday users.

Prime members can snag the Platinum colorway on sale for just $918.99, which is 34% off its $1,399.99 MSRP and a new all-time low by a couple bucks. For comparison's sake, Amazon's deal is $181 cheaper than competing discounts at the Microsoft Store and Best Buy (where it's currently sold out)." — Haley Henschel, Senior Shopping Reporter

Best tablet deal Our pick: Apple iPad, 11-inch (A16, WiFi, 128GB) $279.99 at Walmart
$349 Save $69.01 Get Deal

"As much as we love the affordable iPad Mini, it's really hard to argue with a $279 iPad. And so we're not even going to try. While the base model iPad is missing the latest Apple silicon (the M series chips), do you really want your tablet to feel like a laptop? Then you might be tempted to get some work done instead of playing The Sims." — Timothy Beck Werth, Tech Editor

Best TV deal Our pick: Samsung The Frame 55-inch QLED Art TV (2024 model) $812.99 at Amazon
$1,497.99 Save $685 Get Deal

"Samsung's famous Art TV really is something special. It has a matte, anti-glare display you'll only find on a couple other flagship Samsung TVs, and the art mode really is a genius innovation. The ultra-thin frame also looks very impressive up on the wall.

"I attended the launch event for the 2024 edition of The Frame, and it's been my favorite TV ever since. This model got an upgraded AI processor for smoother action, plus some other key upgrades, and you're not missing anything crucial versus the 2025 model. When friends and family ask for TV recommendations, this is my top pick." — Timothy Beck Werth, Tech Editor

Best Kindle deal Our pick: Amazon Kindle (16GB) $109.99 at Amazon
Get Deal

"If you're looking for the best possible deal on a Kindle e-reader, then you're looking for the base model, which gets a rare price drop for Prime Day. Kindles typically only go on sale during big events like Prime Day and Black Friday, so this is a rare chance to get a new Kindle for under $100. In her review, Shopping Reporter Samantha Mangino said this is the 'best e-reader on a budget,' and that's doubly true when it's on sale." — Timothy Beck Werth, Tech Editor

Best headphones deal Our pick: Sony WH-1000XM5 $313 at Amazon
$399.99 Save $86.99 Get Deal

"While the brand new Sony WH-1000XM6 headphones may be enjoying a modest $20 discount, the real deal is $150 price cut on the Sony WH-1000XM5 headphones. Barring some minor upgrades (including slightly improved sound and folding ear cups), the XM5 headphones are very similar to their newer counterpart, with 30 hours of battery life, great ANC, and the same degree of comfort for long hours of wear. The major difference? These headphones hold their own with $400+ options while being priced at nearly half the cost. This $248 marks a brand new best price ever for these headphones, beating their $249.99 sale price we saw only once before earlier this spring." — Bethany Allard, Lead Shopping Reporter

Best robot vacuum deal Our pick: Roborock Q7 M5+ robot vacuum and mop $429.99 at Amazon
See It

"This budget Roborock model was also just released this year, but it's been living in the shadow of the big bad Saros trio. Nevertheless, it deserves a spotlight for the value that it packs, especially now that it's under $300 for Prime members this of Prime Day. The most impressive feat of the Roborock Q7 M5+ is its 10,000 Pa of suction power — that's far stronger than the norm for cheap robot vacuums. That matches the power of my favorite robot vacuum from 2024, the Roborock Qrevo Master, and is the baseline number I'd recommend for keeping up with substantial pet hair.

"Note that the Q7 M5+ does mop and does self-empty, but doesn't wash and dry its own mopping pad like the more premium Roborocks." — Leah Stodart, Senior Shopping Reporter

Best gaming deal Our pick: 'Final Fantasy XVI' for PlayStation 5 $22.95 at Walmart
$69.99 Save $47.04 Get Deal

Read Mashable's full review of Final Fantasy XVI.

"Final Fantasy XVI is unlike any FF game that came before it, and honestly, we think that's a good thing. That's because FFVI is a truly fantastic character action game that combines engaging combat and an intriguing story with the visual spectacle we've come to expect from the series. It's an incredibly worthwhile adventure for all PS5 owners to experience." — Dylan Haas, Lead Shopping Reporter

Best streaming deal Opens in a new window Credit: Paramount+ Our pick: Paramount+ Premium $0.99/month for 2 months (save $12/month) Get Deal

"New and returning subscribers can get their first two months of Paramount+ Premium — that's the ad-free tier with Showtime — for just 99 cents per month. Typically $12.99 per month, that saves you $24 total. Even better, you can score the deal on its own through Paramount+ or as a Prime Video add-on. For what it's worth, the streamer typically offers a $2.99 per month deal for six months during Black Friday. While the Prime Day discount is only valid for a third of the time, it'll cost you $2 less per month, making this a pretty epic deal.

The Premium tier gives viewers an ad-free experience (except with live TV), access to the entire Showtime library, the ability to stream CBS live and download movies and shows for offline viewing, and 4K, UHD, Dolby Vision, and HDR10 quality. The discount is only valid through July 13, so be sure to sign up ASAP. Also, remember that the cost per month will go back to full price ($12.99 per month) after your two-month promotional period unless you cancel." — Christina Buff, Mashable contributor

Best household essential deal Our pick: Arm & Hammer Power Sheets (50-count) $12.98 at Amazon
$14.99 Save $2.01 See It

"Laundry detergent is one of those things you'll always need more of. This $10 box of Arm & Hammer detergent sheets can cover up to 100 small loads — spend $40 or $50 and you won't have to stock up on detergent for the foreseeable future." — Leah Stodart, Senior Shopping Reporter

Apple adds Mac Pro, iPads, and more to its vintage and obsolete products list

Fri, 07/11/2025 - 21:22

Once again, Apple has updated its list of vintage and obsolete products. This update include the iconic, yet infamous "trash can" Mac Pro from 2013.

The 2013 Mac Pro was a complete design departure from its predecessors (and successors) with its cylindrical design that looked like one of those sleek mini trash cans. It was praised at the time for its performance and cooling system due to its unique design. But the shape of the 2013 Mac Pro was also its downfall, since there was so space for Apple users to upgrade or replace its hardware. When Apple introduced a new Mac Pro in 2019 to replace the 2013 model, it was decidedly rectangular in shape and also drew comparisons to a cheese grater.

SEE ALSO: 175+ best Prime Day deals: We found last-chance offers on Apple, Yeti, and Samsung — score over 60% off

Apple discontinued the 2013 Mac Pro in 2019, and has now officially designated it a vintage Apple product, according to MacRumors. What that technically means is Apple stopped selling them more than five years ago. For users with vintage devices, Apple can no longer guarantee parts or support and the devices may not support new system updates.

Obsolete products are ones that were discontinued seven years ago. Devices relegated to this list stop receiving all hardware support.

What other products did Apple move to the vintage and obsolete pile recently? Here's the list:

Apple devices added to the vintage list
  • 2019 13-inch MacBook Air

  • 2019 iMac

  • 2018 11-inch iPad Pro

  • 2018 third-generation 12.9-inch ‌iPad Pro‌

  • 2013 Mac Pro

  • 128 GB iPhone 8

Apple devices added to the obsolete list
  • AirPort Express (2nd generation)

  • AirPort Time Capsules, 2TB and 3TB versions

  • AirPort Extreme 802.11ac

3 new Android 16 features to try thanks to Android Canary

Fri, 07/11/2025 - 20:56

Android 16 is here and there are already a bunch of fun new features to try out, but more are on the way.

You can actually try some of them right now thanks to Android Canary, Google's brand new delivery mechanism for upcoming feature testing for Android. Per 9to5Google, the first Android Canary update is here, bringing with it a small handful of minor new features. They aren't big, game-changing additions, but they do sound nice. Here are three you should try.

SEE ALSO: Pixel owners report Android 16 lock screen issues

Before we get started, a brief word of warning: Installing unfinished Android builds on your personal device can be dangerous for reasons that I hope are obvious. Do it at your own risk.

1. Hide the AI button

Easily the most appealing new feature in the latest Android Canary update to me, personally, is the ability to hide the AI button from the Pixel search bar that sits on your phone's home screen. Typically, the search bar just has two buttons: One for voice search and one for photo search. These days, there's a third button that activates AI mode, but a new toggle in the settings menu lets you turn that off entirely so you never accidentally press it.

2. Enhanced HDR

It's not clear yet how profound an effect it has, but there's a new "Enhanced HDR Brightness" toggle in the settings menu that is supposed to improve image quality on anything that supports HDR. Specifically, as its name suggests, HDR content should be brighter after you turn this on. HDR is great when configured correctly, but it can sometimes produce dimmer images, so this is a good setting to have, assuming it works.

3. A new, separate parental controls menu

This last one is less a new feature and more a reorganization of the settings menu, but there's now a dedicated "Parental Controls" menu where there wasn't before. Previously, parental controls were bundled into the "Digital Wellbeing" menu, which still exists, but is now separate from parental controls. Again, it doesn't seem like there are any new parental control options at the moment, but it's nice that this is now its own separate part of the settings menu.

How to get free Amazon Prime: Switch to this Metro by T-Mobile phone plan

Fri, 07/11/2025 - 20:55

SAVE $14.99/MONTH ON PRIME: Metro by T-Mobile customers with the Metro Flex Unlimited Plus plan get free Amazon Prime included in their $60/month plan. Amazon Prime usually costs $14.99/month, or $139 per year if you pay all at once.

Opens in a new window Credit: T-Mobile Free Amazon Prime with Metro by T-Mobile $0
$14.99 Save $14.99 Included in the $60/month plan Get Deal

A lot of subscriptions out there come with other subscriptions for free, like how you can get free HBO Max with a DashPass subscription. But the final boss of subscriptions — Amazon Prime — is almost never included for free with anything. Unless it's T-Mobile's Metro Flex Unlimited Plus phone plan, in which case you really do get free Amazon Prime. Imagine realizing you have access to that while Prime Day is still happening.

So, that's $14.99/month (the price of Prime) that you don't have to pay with your $60/month phone plan (already quite affordable compared to other phone plans). A free Prime membership unlocks so many more savings that go way past that free Prime shipping. For instance, Prime members get a free Grubhub+ subscription, which unlocks $0 delivery fees on every order. Prime members are also frequently offered free months of Amazon subscriptions like Kindle Unlimited and Amazon Music Unlimited — that's happening for Prime Day as we speak.

SEE ALSO: Stock up on the boring stuff this Prime Day: Toilet paper, cleaning products, you know

This deal is not just exclusive to Prime Day, which ends at 2:59 a.m. ET or right before midnight for west coasters. It's been around since April, when T-Mobile launched the Metro Flex Unlimited Plus and its "$250 in added value." The plan secures a five-year price guarantee at $60/month, so you won't have prices raised on your unlimited 5G data or unlimited talk and text. Also included with Metro Flex Unlimited Plus is 25GB of hotspot data, HD video, and the big one for people who travel a lot: unlimited international texting in over 210 countries. That's a rare one.

If you're already a paying Prime member, you'll be able to link your existing membership to your Metro account.

10 Prime Day deals that are so good, we bought them ourselves

Fri, 07/11/2025 - 19:46

This week, Mashable's reporters and editors have spent hundreds of collective hours tracking down Amazon's best Prime Day deals. (And we're not done yet!) We've been scouting record-lows on our favorite products, cross-checking prices with competing retailers like Walmart, monitoring deep discounts in case they sell out, and flagging different ways to help our readers shop smart. Along the way, we've also been adding some goodies to our carts.

SEE ALSO: Prime Day 2025: Live updates on the top deals

A common theme: Most of us are stocking up on discounted everyday essentials like skincare, baby supplies, and cat litter. Naturally, there are a few "why not, it's on sale" impulse buys sprinkled in. (Forgive us: Headphone deals are ridiculously good right now.) Here's the scoop on our Prime Day purchases so far.

1. Some butter yellow headphones Opens in a new window Credit: Sony Sony WH-CH520 Wireless Headphones $38 at Amazon
$59.99 Save $21.99 Get Deal

Deputy Shopping and Reviews Editor Miller Kern told me she snagged these "gorgina" Sony headphones "because I wanted some cheap headphones for walks, and I'm obsessed with the color." They're a low-stakes buy at just $38, which is a new record low.

2. And some Apple AirPods for good measure Opens in a new window Credit: Apple Apple AirPods 4 $89 at Amazon
$129 Save $40 Get Deal

Kern also grabbed a pair of Apple AirPods 4, which have fallen to a new all-time low of $89 at Amazon and Walmart. (The ANC and Pro versions are also cheaper than ever, for what it's worth.) She'll be giving them to her boyfriend: "He exclusively uses wired Apple earbuds for his runs, but he hates the way they tangle," she said.

3. TikTok's favorite brush for wavy hair Opens in a new window Credit: Bounce Curl Bounce Curl Define EdgeLift Brush $23.99 at Amazon
$29.99 Save $6 Get Deal

Shopping Reporters Leah Stodart and Bethany Allard both bought the Bounce Curl Define EdgeLift Brush, which people on TikTok endorse for its ability to bring out curls in naturally wavy hair. Mashable Contributor Christina Buff also has it in her cart. I can't help but wonder... Should I be buying a Bounce Curl Define EdgeLift Brush? (This is its lowest price to date, by the way.)

4. A three-pack of mascara remover Opens in a new window Credit: KissMe Heroine Make by KissMe Mascara Remover for Waterproof Mascara (3-Pack) $24.74 at Amazon
$32.99 Save $8.25 Get Deal

This one was another no-brainer for Allard. Her favorite waterproof mascara remover "usually runs me like $12-14 for one [tube]," she said, so this three-pack is an amazing find at $25-ish. "My most stubborn waterproof mascara hates to see me pull out this blue tube," she shared. It appears to be on sale for the first time ever.

5. Some fancy moisturizer Opens in a new window Credit: Stratia Stratia Lipid Gold (3.4 Fluid Ounces) $40.80 at Amazon
$51 Save $10.20 Get Deal

Stodart has been using this moisturizer on and off since 2021. "I was struggling with weird little rough red patches all over my face and heard that it was super gentle and good for compromised skin barriers," she said. "It was literally the only product that didn't burn my skin for a while." A 3.4-ounce bottle is $51 on the Stratia website, but 20% off on Amazon during Prime Day. It's never gone on sale there before.

6. A huge bundle of diapers and baby wipes Opens in a new window Credit: Pampers Pampers Swaddlers Disposable Baby Diapers (Size 3, 2x 168-Count) with Sensitive Water Based Baby Wipes (1,008-Count) $109.40 at Amazon
$145.87 Save $36.47 Get Deal

Having covered Prime Day for nine years now, Special Projects Editor Nicole Cammorata is a pro at scoping sales. She found these Pampers diapers and baby wipes listed individually at other stores to verify that Amazon's bundle "really is a good deal." Indeed, it's never been cheaper before this week. (It's actually gotten about $7 cheaper since we first published this story Thursday.)

7. Ten pounds of natural kitty litter Opens in a new window Credit: Nature's Miracle Nature’s Miracle Premium Clumping Corn Cob Litter (10 Pounds) $10.79 at Amazon
$15.49 Save $4.70 Get Deal

Per Stodart, who owns two cats, you can't go wrong with a $10 ten-pound bag of "classic CCL (corn cob litter)." It gets a few cents cheaper if you sign up for recurring deliveries, too.

8. A gigantic Yankee candle Opens in a new window Credit: Yankee Candle Yankee Candle (22-Ounce Large Jar), Pink Sands $14.99 at Amazon
$30.99 Save $16.00 Get Deal

Kern restocked her favorite Yankee Candle in the scent Pink Sands. "It's like very fresh and clean smelling, but also slightly fruity," she told me. It's one of nearly two dozen 22-ounce Yankee candles that are deeply discounted for Prime Day.

9. A pack of bug bite patches Opens in a new window Credit: Quitch Quitch Bug Bite Itch Relief Patches (36-Count) $8.25 at Amazon
$11.95 Save $3.70 Get Deal

Buff's sister gave one of these itch relief patches to her after she got a gigantic mosquito bite on the Fourth of July. "It actually worked," she said, "so I had to stock up while they’re on sale." The last time I checked, a 36-pack was only $8 (a record low) thanks to one of Amazon's limited-time Lightning Deals.

10. A lightweight beach tent Opens in a new window Credit: Gorich Gorich Beach Tent Sun Shelter (3-4 Person) $48.99 at Amazon
$69.99 Save $21.00 Get Deal

I live right by the beach and have been looking for a portable sun shelter for a while. I used to pine for Baggu's patterned pop-up tent, but I could never justify its $120 price tag. While admittedly less cute, this alternative I found on Amazon is a fraction of the price. I went with the four-person size, so there's enough room for a couple friends and a cooler full of snacks. At $48.99, its Prime Day deal beats its previous record-low by $7.

What is Amazon Prime Day? And is it a scam? The inside scoop from our shopping editors.

Fri, 07/11/2025 - 18:59

The fourth and final day of Prime Day 2025 has arrived, and that means the Mashable Shopping team is extra-caffeinated and ready to go. Until the closing hours of the sale, we'll be bringing you the best deals and live updates.

Mashable's shopping reporters have been covering Amazon's Prime Day since 2018, but this year is a little different. The retail giant has extended its flagship members-only sale from two days to four days for 2025.

So, whether this is your first Prime Day or your ninth, here's everything we think you should know about Prime Day. We're also tracking the best Prime Day deals, and we've included some standouts here as well.

Top Prime Day deals Apple AirPods Pro 2 $149 (save $100) Get Deal Apple AirTags (4-pack) $64.99 (save $34.01) Get Deal Apple iPad mini (A17 Pro, 128GB) $379 (save $120) Get Deal Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra AI Smartphone $949.99 (save $350) Get Deal Amazon Fire TV 55-inch 4-Series 4K UHD smart TV $339.99 (save $120) Get Deal Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K streaming device $24.99 (save $25) Get Deal Amazon Kindle Paperwhite $124.99 (save $35) Get Deal Dyson Cool AM07 Bladeless Tower Fan $239.99 (save $130 ) Get Deal Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 40mm Bluetooth AI Smartwatch $151.99 (save $148) Get Deal Marshall Emberton II Portable Bluetooth Speaker, Black & Steel $99.99 at Amazon Get Deal What is Prime Day?

Prime Day is Amazon's annual sitewide sale open to paid and trial members of Amazon's Prime subscription service. First held in 2015 in honor of Amazon's 20th anniversary (with mixed success), it was originally plugged as a "one-day-only event filled with more deals than Black Friday." In the years since, it's morphed into a longer, international shopping holiday.

In fact, Prime Day has been so successful that practically the entire internet now goes on sale in mid-July. Walmart, Best Buy, Target, The Home Depot, and every other notable retailer host a competing, anti-Prime Day sale, and your favorite brands are probably offering discounts, too.

In short, if you've been putting off a purchase, large or small, this is the best time to shop until Black Friday comes around in November.

When is Prime Day 2025?

Prime Day runs from Tuesday, July 8 through Friday, July 11 in 2025, with new deals dropping as often as every five minutes at certain points during the event.

Yes, Prime Day is a misnomer. The name "Prime Day" hasn't really been applicable since 2019, when Amazon turned it into a 48-hour event. In 2025, four days of Amazon deals means this Prime Day is the longest ever. (We can see Amazon's logic here: Many tariff- and inflation-weary shoppers are in dire need of some really good summer deals.)

While longer than past Amazon sales, this year's event still comes at the usual time: Amazon has a historical preference for mid-July slots with Tuesday start dates. Prime Day 2022 was live from July 12 to 13, Prime Day 2023 ran from July 11 to 12, and Prime Day 2024 fell on July 16 and 17.

Is Prime Day a scam?

We've been seeing this question pop up a lot lately, and it surprised us. No, Prime Day is not a scam.

While some of Amazon's sales (cough, Big Spring Sale, cough) have been a bit lackluster in recent years, Prime Day 2025 is a legitimate opportunity to save. This year, we're seeing record prices on Apple products (Apple Watch, iPads, AirPods, and more), Samsung AI smartphones, noise-cancelling earbuds, Bluetooth speakers, and kitchen gadgets from brands like Ninja.

And because we're professional deal hunters, we don't just take Amazon's word for it. We cover deals all year long and use price trackers to check the historical pricing for popular products, and we only include deals in our shopping guides when they represent a genuine price drop. Yes, Amazon does try to pass off "deals" that don't really deserve the name occasionally. For instance, some of Amazon's Prime Day Lego deals include products that are always "on sale." However, Prime Day really does include thousands of new and exciting (at least, to us) price drops. In particular, we're seeing incredible savings on wireless earbuds and cheap TVs this year, as just two examples.

One last reminder: You'll see Amazon offering extended free trials for services like Audible, Kindle Unlimited, and Amazon Music Unlimited during Prime Day. If you forget to cancel these subscriptions, you'll get hit with auto-renew (it's how they get you!), so don't forget to cancel your membership if you don't want to get charged. Unfortunately, this is a pretty standard tactic across the web.

How to sign up for Amazon Prime

Amazon Prime memberships cost $14.99 per month, but you can sign up for a 30-day free trial. New members ages 18-24 can get reduced-cost memberships and a 6-month free trial with Prime for Young Adults.

Amazon makes it really easy to test out its membership service, which also gives you access to the Prime Video streaming service. Prime members get all the perks you've heard about — free two-day shipping and returns — plus some you haven't:

  • $0 delivery fees with free access to Grubhub+

  • Unlimited photo storage with Amazon Photos

  • Ad-free podcasts through Amazon Music

  • Exclusive deals plus bonus savings on gas and medical prescriptions

Prime Day 2025 officially started at 3:01 a.m. ET (12:01 a.m. PT) on July 8, and Amazon started strong this year. In the first hours of the sale, all AirPods were discounted to their lowest-ever prices, and we're seeing tons more record-low discounts on products from brands such as Samsung, Sony, and Ninja.

Prime Day 2025 concludes at 2:59 a.m. ET on Saturday, July 12, aka 11:59 p.m. PT on Friday, July 11. Some deals may linger past that deadline, but don't count on it.

The top Prime Day competitor sales to shop in 2025

Best Buy's "Black Friday in July" sale started Monday, July 7, and runs through Sunday, July 13, bookending Prime Day with three extra days of savings. Its offers aren't exclusive to paid members of its My Best Buy program, but they do receive special bonus rewards on certain purchases during the sale.

SEE ALSO: Best Buy's 'Black Friday in July' sale will overlap with Prime Day, shocking no one

A Target Circle Week sale is also overlapping with Prime Day this year from July 6 to 12.

Meanwhile, Walmart is hosting a six-day Walmart Deals event alongside Prime Day from July 8 to 13 (with early access to deals for paid Walmart+ members). Its discounts are available both in stores and online, which is a first.

The Home Depot has also extended its Fourth of July sale to overlap with Prime Day, though it's ending soon.

Finally, even TikTok is competing with Prime Day. TikTok Shop, its in-app shopping platform, is running a 13-day "Deals for You Days" sale from July 7 to 19.

What's new for Prime Day 2025 (besides the longer hours)?

Amazon has introduced new themed daily drops called "Today's Big Deals" for Prime Day 2025. According to a company press release, these limited-time offers will involve "some of the most exciting deals of the event" and feature well-known brands like Samsung and Levi’s. They'll go live every day at 3 a.m. ET (12 a.m. PT) during the sale and hang around "for a limited time, while supplies last."

What are the best Prime Day deals?

Many of the best Prime Day deals are on Amazon's own devices. (It likes to keep things in the family.) At the time of writing, we spotted discounts of up to 50% off Fire tablets, up to 73% off Echo devices, up to 48% off Fire TVs, and up to 54% off Blink home security equipment.

Amazon is also doling out some extra perks for Team Prime. Members can save $10 on any GrubHub+ delivery order using the code PRIME10; get a free four-month trial of Amazon Music Unlimited; try Audible Premium Plus free for three months; and claim some free video games via Prime Gaming.

SEE ALSO: Get record-low prices on Apple products for Prime Day 2025

Speaking of tech companies that start with the letter "A": A bunch of Apple gadgets are seeing sizable price drops during the sale. Of note, all AirPods are back to record-low prices, and the M4 MacBook Air, the Apple Watch Series 10, and the iPad mini are all at least $100 off.

Looking more broadly outside of specific brands, our team is seeing strong Prime Day discounts on all sorts of TVs, laptops, tablets, headphones, Bluetooth speakers, robot vacuums, kitchen appliances, fitness trackers, unlocked phones, board games, Lego sets, books, and a metric boatload of outdoor gear. Again, if you don't feel like parsing through all of Amazon's listings yourself — very fair — we're keeping a regularly updated list of the very best Prime Day deals. We also have dedicated breakouts for the best Prime Day deals under $25 and $50.

Can you shop on Prime Day without being a Prime member?

You have to be a Prime member in order to shop Amazon's Prime Day deals. But if you don't want to commit to a monthly or annual paid subscription, you can still participate by scheduling a free 30-day trial of Prime around the sale. (If you're a student or between the ages of 18 to 24, that free trial is six months long.) Just remember to cancel your membership as soon as Prime Day is over to avoid getting charged.

Does Prime Day only happen once a year?

For the past three years, Amazon has hosted an additional two-day sale for Prime members in October, teeing up its Black Friday festivities. (The 2022 version was called "Prime Early Access Sale," and it was renamed to "Prime Big Deal Days" in 2023.) However, the summer iteration of Prime Day is still Amazon's marquee sale.

Best Prime Day Nintendo Swtich memory deals 2025 Best Nintendo Switch memory deal SanDisk 1TB microSD-Card for Nintendo Switch $99.99 (Save $49) Get Deal

The Nintendo Switch is an amazing handheld console, no doubt. But, it's hard to ignore one of its most glaring issues: The annoyingly small amount of onboard storage space. We can't tell you how many times we've had to play the "storage shuffle" to make space on our Switches for new games.

Thankfully, for Prime Day, there are some great deals floating around on microSD cards, which can be used to expand your Nintendo Switch's storage capacity. We've found discounts of up to $50 on these little lifesavers during the sale, so now is a great time to pick one up. It's the last day of the event though, so don't wait too long to snag one.

Also, note that these microSD cards aren't compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2 (ugh, we know). The new handheld only works with microSD Express cards, which we haven't been able to find on sale at all during Prime Day. However, the regular microSD cards will work with the original Switch, Switch Lite, and Switch OLED. Read on to find our favorite Nintendo Switch memory deals from Amazon Prime Day 2025 below.

The best Prime Day deals on Apple Watches start at only $169 on day 4

Fri, 07/11/2025 - 18:47

UPDATE: Jul. 11, 2025, 12:35 p.m. EDT We've updated this story to reflect current pricing and availability.

The best Prime Day Apple Watch deals at a glance: Our top pick Apple Watch Series 10 (42mm, GPS) $279 (save $120) Get Deal Best budget pick Apple Watch SE, 2nd Gen (40mm, GPS) $169 (save $80) Get Deal Best splurge Apple Watch Ultra 2 (49mm, GPS+ cellular) $649.99 (save $149.01) Get Deal

Amazon Prime Day has historically been a great time to pick up a brand-new Apple Watch on sale (no pun intended). This year has been no different: Every wearable in Apple's lineup is on sale for at least $80 off, and two models have fallen to record-low prices. One of them is the flagship Apple Watch Series 10, our favorite hybrid smartwatch/fitness tracker.

SEE ALSO: 175+ best Prime Day deals: We found last-chance offers on Apple, Yeti, and Samsung — score over 60% off

A couple of buying tips before we get into the deals. One, you'll score the biggest discounts if you're not picky about colorways. Two, while these offers are available on Amazon, they're not labeled as official Prime Day deals. That's actually a good thing: Non-Prime members can enjoy the savings, too. At the same time, we don't expect them to hang around for long after Prime Day ends at midnight tonight. If a deal catches your eye, add it to your cart sooner rather than later.

Without any further ado, here are the best Prime Day Apple Watch deals we could find. Deals marked with a 🔥 have dropped to an all-time low price.

Read Mashable's full review of the Apple Watch Series 10.

The Apple Watch Series 10 got a 4/5 from Mashable's Stan Schroeder, who liked its fast charging feature, lightweight design, and large display. It includes a suite of health tracking features, including a heart rate monitor, sleep tracker, menstrual cycle tracker, and pedometer. (The blood oxygen sensor is the main feature that's missing.) It's pretty similar to the Series 7, 8, 9 models, so only upgrade if you have a Series 6 or older.

Amazon has the 42mm Apple Watch Series 10 without cellular connectivity on sale for just $279 during Prime Day (normally $399). That's an unprecedented 30% discount, and $20 better than Best Buy's "Black Friday in July" pricing for the same model. Walmart was matching its Prime Day offer when we last checked, but only in three color/band combinations. Amazon has six.

Samsungs flagship S25 Ultra is under $1,000 at Amazon — if you hurry

Fri, 07/11/2025 - 18:45

TL;DR: Samsung's Galaxy S25 Ultra flagship phone is under $949 for Prime Day if you get the 256GB model, a 27% decrease from its $1,299 list price.

Opens in a new window Credit: Samsung/Amazon Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra 256GB $949 at Amazon
$1,299 Save $350 Get Deal

Samsung fans who need to upgrade their phones should strongly consider checking out this Prime Day deal, as the Galaxy S25 Ultra that came out just earlier this year is available for less than $1,000 if you grab the 256GB model. However, the 512GB model is only $1,054, so for approximately an extra Benjamin, you can get twice the storage capacity (if that appeals to you at all).

SEE ALSO: You can still get a Samsung The Frame art TV for under $800 during the final hours of Prime Day

For that price, you get the highest-end Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy chipset that's currently available, guaranteeing strong everyday performance. In my review of the phone, I noted that the new rounded corners around the edges are much more comfortable in the hand than the more angular design of previous Samsung flagships. The 5,000mAh battery also provides strong battery life to go along with a big 6.9-inch display and the included S Pen stylus.

Oh yeah, you also get a 200MP wide lens on the rear camera array. All in all, this is a great value for less than $1,000.

Apples M5 MacBook Pro could be delayed until 2026, report says

Fri, 07/11/2025 - 18:05

Plans to release the new MacBook Pro with an M5 chip are delayed, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

Typically, Apple has announced its new lineup of MacBook Pros with updated chips in October or November. That's been the case the past few years with the M4 MacBook Pro last year and the M3 MacBook Pro the year before. While it may have been the original plan to release the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros in the fall of 2025, "Apple is considering pushing them back to 2026," Gurman reports.

This Tweet is currently unavailable. It might be loading or has been removed.

It's unclear why MacBook Pro product cycle is expected to be longer than usual, Gurman reported. He also revealed that the M5 MacBook Pro will be "the last with the current design."

If we don't see an M5 MacBook Pro this fall, it's possible we might see another M5-powered device: the iPad Pro. Looking at last year's release schedule, Apple announced a version of the iPad Pro with an M4 chip in May 2024 – months before it launched Macs with the same M4 chip.

This Tweet is currently unavailable. It might be loading or has been removed.

The M5 iPad Pro would join the release of the iPhone 17 lineup, new Apple Watches, and updates to the Vision Pro headset this fall, according to Gurman. So maybe Apple fans will have to wait a little longer for the new MacBook Pro, but there are lots of hardware updates to capture their attention before then.

Jack Dorsey launches Bitchat, a secure messaging app that doesn’t use the internet

Fri, 07/11/2025 - 17:54

Jack Dorsey — Twitter, Bluesky, and Square co-founder and Bitcoin evangelist — is now taking on the world of private messaging apps.

Announced earlier this week, Dorsey's latest project is called Bitchat, a reportedly secure and private messaging app that doesn't need to connect to the internet or cell service at all. Instead, Dorsey explains in a recent white paper published on GitHub, the end-to-end encrypted app uses decentralized Bluetooth tech to connect one user to another — a type of offline communication popularized by apps like Bridgefy and preferred among the privacy-focused.

SEE ALSO: Grok 4 is using Elon Musk's X posts as a source when answering questions

The system Dorsey is hinging his latest project on is known as Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) mesh networks. These networks traditionally have limited range — most Bluetooth connections work within 100 meters — but Dorsey claims his new tech can extend to 300 meters (or 984 feet). The app, which Dorsey called a "weekend project," was coded using the help of Goose, an open-source AI "vibe coding" assistant built by his company Block.

"bitchat addresses the need for resilient, private communication that doesn't depend on centralized infrastructure," Dorsey writes. "By leveraging Bluetooth Low Energy mesh networking, bitchat enables direct peer-to-peer messaging within physical proximity, with automatic message relay extending the effective range beyond direct Bluetooth connections."

This Tweet is currently unavailable. It might be loading or has been removed.

However, the tech founder's promises of an entirely decentralized, secure platform have already been called into question by users and experts, in part due to a potentially vulnerable authentication system that could allow a malicious actor to intercept the secure connection. Dorsey has since added a disclaimer alongside a note that the project is a "work in progress." The disclaimer reads: “This software has not received external security review and may contain vulnerabilities and does not necessarily meet its stated security goals. Do not use it for production use, and do not rely on its security whatsoever until it has been reviewed."

6 Mashable staffers own the viral Owala FreeSip. Its only $25 for Prime Day.

When it comes to insulated water bottles, Mashable staffers' loyalties are clear. We are not a house divided between Stanley and Hydro Flask. We are Owala FreeSip people.

I bought my own FreeSip because it haunted me at the gym. I couldn't walk between the locker room and the Stairmaster machines without spotting a few nestled in cupholders. After using it for over a year now, I'm not shocked that it's so popular: The FreeSip's leakproof locking lid has a spout and a straw so you can drink out of it two ways, and it comes in a ton of cute color combinations. Mine is a lime green, orange, and yellow number that happens to look just like my parrot, Melon. I swear that wasn't intentional.

Twins. Credit: Haley Henschel / Mashable

My fellow Shopping Reporter Samantha Mangino snagged a FreeSip after seeing it featured in a bunch of viral TikToks, and now considers it her go-to "emotional support water bottle." Her favorite feature is the cover on its spout; most strawed water bottles she's tried don't have one. "That way, when you're out and about in the world, it's safe from germs and bacteria," Mangino wrote last month.

At present, four Mashable reporters use FreeSips daily, and two of our editors share custody of one with their partners. We're extra-picky about how we spend our money, so when we all come to a separate consensus on a product, you know it's legit.

In a rare deal, the FreeSip happens to be on sale in two sizes this Prime Day. Amazon has the 24-ouncer listed for $25.49 and the 32-ounce version discounted to $29.97 — a 15% savings either way. Those are their lowest prices since last December, according to the price-tracking site CamelCamelCamel. (They weren't included in Owala's Memorial Day sale.) What's more, they appear to be their only discounts anywhere this week: All FreeSip sizes are full price at Target and on the Owala website.

The only catch? Both Prime Day deals apply exclusively to the Camo Cool colors.

The set is a collaboration with the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) and really captures Van Gogh's colors and brushstrokes through creative building techniques. Perhaps nobody understands the tools needed to navigate the modern world better than creators. They're the folks who need to create content quickly, on the go, and still make it look beautiful enough for long-form YouTube content. They need to be able to snap a wonderful picture for Instagram or record a POV video for TikTok at a moment's notice.

It makes sense, then, that you'd want to take an influencer's recommendation for tech gadgets. After all, who would have more experience? So, that's exactly what we've been doing in advance of Prime Day 2025.

Mashable recently launched an entire series called In My Bag in which creators reveal the essential tools of their trade. Relying on that series, and our own considerable knowledge of the tech space, we've combed through Amazon's Prime Day deals to find the best discounts on creator-approved, must-have gadgets.

Samsung is exploring smart necklaces, earrings as AI-powered wearables

Fri, 07/11/2025 - 17:16

Samsung already has the smart ring and, coming soon, smart glasses. But what about earrings or necklaces?

Samsung's COO for its mobile division Won-joon Choi told CNN that the company is exploring many different form factors for AI-powered wearables. "We believe it should be wearable, something that you shouldn’t carry, [that] you don’t need to carry," Choi said in an interview. "So it could be something that you wear, glasses, earrings, watches, rings and sometimes [a] necklace.

The advancements of AI models that can handle more complex multi-step tasks with voice prompts is a natural fit for the wearable market. Instead of relying on a screen to type or tap, users can increasingly carry out screenless requests with minimal effort. And AI labs are banking on this becoming the future of how we use our gadgets. Samsung has reportedly accelerated its development of AR smart glasses, and teased its XR headset in collaboration with Google, dubbed Project Moohan. But it is also exploring devices beyond glasses and headsets.

Choi told CNN that they're looking at all "kinds of possibilities," since some people might not want to wear glasses. OpenAI is also taking this approach with acquisition of iconic Apple designer Jony Ive. Few details are know, even less so since the company is now dealing with a trademark dispute over the name and brand. But leaked memos say the AI companion device is not XR glasses.

Products like the Humane Ai Pin and the Rabbit R1 have tried and failed with alternative AI wearables and devices. But companies like Samsung, Google, and OpenAI clearly see the potential in wearables — whatever form it takes.
