NYT Pips hints, answers for September 2, 2025

Mashable - Tue, 09/02/2025 - 13:24

Pips is the newest game in the New York Times catalogue. Released in August 2025, the new game puts a unique spin on dominoes, creating a fun single-player experience that could become your next daily gaming habit.

Currently, if you're stuck, the game only offers to reveal the entire puzzle, forcing you to move onto the next difficulty level and start over. However, we have you covered! Below are piecemeal answers that will serve as hints so that you can find your way through each difficulty level.

How to play Pips

If you've ever played dominoes, you'll have a passing familiarity for how Pips is played. Like dominoes, the tiles are placed vertically or horizontally and connect with each other. The main difference between a traditional game of dominoes and Pips is the color-coded conditions you have to address. The touching tiles don't necessarily have to match.

SEE ALSO: Wordle today: Answer, hints for September 2, 2025

The conditions you have to meet are specific to the color-coded spaces. For example, if it provides a single number, every side of a tile in that space must add up to the number provided. It is possible – and common – for only half a tile to be within a color-coded space.

Here are common examples you'll run into across the difficulty levels:

  • Number: All the pips in this space must add up to the number.

  • Equal: Every domino half in this space must be the same number of pips.

  • Not Equal: Every domino half in this space must have a completely different number of pips.

  • Less than: Every domino half in this space must add up to less than the number.

  • Greater than: Every domino half in this space must add up to more than the number.

If an area does not have any color coding, it means there are no conditions on the portions of dominoes within those spaces.

Elon Musks new Tesla Master Plan promises abundance for everyone

Mashable - Tue, 09/02/2025 - 12:38

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has a new Master Plan, and we're never been less sure on what's it really about.

The first "Master Plan" – a broad stroke company strategy penned by Elon Musk back in 2006 – was simple enough: Build a quick, fancy electric sports car, use the proceeds (and the attention) to build a more affordable electric car, then follow up with an electric car that'll be affordable enough to sell en masse and kickstart an electric vehicle revolution.

The follow-up to that plan was mostly about the advent of self-driving tech, which could transform your Tesla into an autonomous taxi that could earn you money; we're seeing the first steps towards that happening now with Tesla's Robotaxi service.

The third Master Plan was a bit harder to process, as it was a much longer document that mostly steered away from cars and focused on renewable energy.

Finally, the fourth Master Plan, revealed on Monday by Tesla's official account on X, once again shifts focus, this time onto robotics and AI.

This Tweet is currently unavailable. It might be loading or has been removed.

The key word, used several times in the text, is "sustainable abundance."

"We are combining our manufacturing capabilities with our autonomous prowess to deliver new products and services that will accelerate global prosperity and human thriving driven by economic growth shared by all," says the article.

Unfortunately, there's very little tangible explanation on how, exactly, Tesla aims to achieve this. Optimus, the company's humanoid robot, is mentioned as being able to accomplish monotonous and dangerous tasks. But in reality, Optimus isn't available to the public yet, and its supposedly high level of autonomy, based on what we've seen so far, is dubious at best.

And that, aside from a quick repeat of previous claims about autonomous vehicles "dramatically improving the affordability, availability and safety of transportation," is pretty much it. The final part of the text explains just how hard it'll be to eliminate scarcity.

SEE ALSO: New Tesla Model Y Performance: Lightning quick acceleration, great range, and more

While the idea of eliminating scarcity to make a world where everyone lives in abundance sounds great, it's hard to glean from this text how Tesla plans to achieve that. The Robotaxis are here, but given how slow Tesla's progress on Full Self-Driving has been so far, it might take a while before they're widely available, let alone disrupting industries as Musk would have you believe.

As for Optimus, we don't know how capable it will be, or how much it will cost. Tesla might have a plan to scale it to a level where every household has one or three (Musk said it will be 10 times bigger than the next biggest product ever made), but the latest Master Plan doesn't explain that bit. We guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Stephen King posts a prediction for Trump and the 2026 election

Mashable - Tue, 09/02/2025 - 11:55

Stephen King has long been a vocal critic of Donald Trump, but he's really ramped things up recently.

At the end of last week, following Trump's controversial comments about dictators during a cabinet meeting, the horror author accused the president of "turning America into a fascist, authoritarian state."

SEE ALSO: Stephen King weighs in on Gavin Newsom trolling Trump

Now King has shared his thoughts on X once again, this time making a prediction for the 2026 election.

"Trump and his greedhead cronies may get a big surprise in spite of their efforts to rig the 2026 election," wrote King. "They could find themselves swamped by a blue wave. Americans are wising up to the fact that Trump is turning the American dream into a nightmare."

This Tweet is currently unavailable. It might be loading or has been removed.

Trump placed Washington D.C. under federal control and brought in the national guard in a supposed crackdown on crime which drew widespread criticism, as did his recent plans to extend this scheme to cities like New York and Chicago.

The Pokémon TCG White Flare Binder Collection is finally down to market value on Amazon

Mashable - Tue, 09/02/2025 - 11:22

AMAZON PRICE CHECK: As of Sept. 2, the Pokémon TCG White Flare Binder Collection is $47.99 at both Amazon and TCGPlayer. A rare opportunity to buy Pokémon TCG at Amazon for a fair market price.

Opens in a new window Credit: The Pokémon Company Pokémon TCG White Flare Binder Collection Shop Now

I’ve been watching the White Flare Binder Collection since release, and it’s nice to finally see Amazon stop inflating the price. Right now, it’s sitting at $47.99, the same as TCGPlayer’s market value. No savings here, but at least you’re not paying over MSRP anymore.

Normally, I’d tell you to skip Amazon because TCGPlayer almost always beats them on sealed product. But in this case, the two prices match exactly, so it comes down to where you’d rather shop. If you’ve got Prime shipping or an Amazon gift card lying around, it might be the easier pickup there.

SEE ALSO: Where to buy Pokémon cards in 2025 — avoid overpaying or missing out on new sets

The Binder Collection itself is a neat product. You get a sturdy nine-pocket binder featuring White Flare artwork plus four booster packs from the set. That’s fewer packs than a Booster Bundle, but the binder makes this a nice hybrid between practical storage and cracking open some packs.

From a player’s perspective, I like having an extra binder around for sorting pulls and building trade pages for league nights. Collectors get the bonus of a themed binder to display White Flare’s Illustration Rares — and this set really shines in that department, with Unova Pokémon getting all kinds of unique art treatments.

So while you’re not saving money compared to TCGPlayer, this is still a fair deal if you want the Binder Collection without overpaying. It’s a solid way to enjoy White Flare and keep your collection organized at the same time.

If you’re cracking the packs inside, here are some of the pulls that could make the binder pay for itself. Victini is the crown jewel, while Reshiram ex, Hydreigon ex, Jellicent ex, and Hilda all bring serious value either for collectors or competitive play.

Even after Labor Day, Amazon is offering some great deals on its streaming devices, including the Fire TV Cube that has dropped below $100 for a limited time.

As of Sept. 2, the Fire TV Cube is on sale for $99.99 at Amazon. This is $40 off its list price of $139.99. It's marked as a limited-time deal right now, so it may not stick around much longer. If you've been looking for a streaming upgrade, now is the time to grab it for less.

Score the Pokémon TCG White Flare Booster Bundle at TCGPlayer and save $6.90 over Amazon

Mashable - Tue, 09/02/2025 - 11:01

SAVE $6.90: As of Sept. 2, the Pokémon TCG White Flare Booster Bundle is $39 at TCGPlayer, compared to $45.90 at Amazon.

Opens in a new window Credit: The Pokémon Company Pokémon TCG White Flare Booster Bundle $39 at TCGPlayer
$45.90 Save $6.90 Shop Now

White Flare is one of those sets that feels like it has something for everyone. On the player side, we’re seeing tournament chatter around cards like Jellicent ex, which locks opponents out of using both Item and Tool cards while still swinging for solid damage. On the collector side, the Illustration Rares cover every Unova Pokémon, and the art styles are gorgeous. I’ve been keeping an eye on this set since launch, and right now the White Flare Booster Bundle is only $39 on TCGPlayer. Amazon is charging $45.90 for the same thing, so you’re saving over 16% just by buying in the right place.

Amazon’s discount isn’t bad on paper, but when you compare it directly, you’re still paying almost $7 more. That’s a pack and a half worth of value you’re missing out on. Personally, I’d rather put that extra cash toward a single card I’m chasing than hand it over to Amazon.

Each Booster Bundle comes with six packs, and that’s six shots at pulling some really exciting cards. I’d love to see Hilda show up in one of mine — she tutors both an Evolution Pokémon and an Energy card, which is exactly the kind of consistency boost I like for deck building. Genesect ex (Black Bolt) looks fun for Steel builds too, while Reshiram ex and Zekrom ex (Black Bolt) are bringing serious firepower (literally).

If you’re more into collecting, White Flare is a treat. Victini ex is shaping up to be the big chase, and the Hydreigon ex Illustration Rare has already caught my eye with its moody dragon artwork. Jellicent ex and Hilda both got epic special illustrations too, so even the competitive cards are collectible. Every time I scroll through card scans from this set, I see something new I’d want in my binder.

That’s why I think this is a deal worth jumping on now. Sealed White Flare product will probably creep back up in price as the meta settles and collectors start hoarding Illustration Rares. At $39, this Booster Bundle feels like the right balance between cracking packs for fun and holding a sealed piece of a hot set.

Black Bolt and White Flare expansions are packed with some of the coolest chase cards we’ve seen in a while. The Black and White Rares bring back Unova’s Legendary powerhouses in stunning new designs, while the Special Illustration Rares are every bit as collectible, turning favorites like Reshiram, and Zekrom into true centerpiece cards for any binder. Here's the top 5 most valuable Black Bolt and White Flare Pokémon card you could pull from your Elite Trainer Box, or just buy the card because they're super hard to pull:

The iPad Pro manages to combine serious power with portability. The M4 chip delivers speedy performance whatever the task, even if you're really putting your device to the test with hundreds of tabs. We don't recommend this way of operating, but it's nice to know that your device can handle the torture.

And the iPad Pro delivers all this power with a new, super-thin design. The 11-inch iPad Pro measures just 0.21 inches thick, so you can slide it into any little pocket as you commute to work or travel somewhere a lot more fun.

We’re impressed with the deals we’ve been seeing from Apple over Labor Day (some are even better than they were during Prime Day), and the Apple AirTags deal is one of the best. You can still get the Apple AirTag four-pack for $69.99 at Amazon, a 29% discount that saves you about $29 off its regular list price of $99.

As a parent of two beagles, I've come to love AirTags as trackers for my dogs, but they also give you peace of mind when it comes to keys, bags (airport luggage), and other valuables. They're also super easy to set up; hold them near your iPhone or iPad and follow the on-screen instructions.

SEE ALSO: Amazon's Labor Day sale is live with lowest-ever prices on Apple, Samsung, and much more

Once they’re connected, you can use the built-in speaker to play a little sound to help you locate whatever it is you’re looking for, even if it’s tucked away in a couch cushion. (You can also ask Siri for help.) For items that are out of earshot, you can use the Find My app to pinpoint their exact location.

Another cool feature is that you can share your AirTag with up to five people, so everyone in your household can track shared items like car keys or the TV remote. And, if something’s truly lost, the “Lost Mode” will automatically notify you when it's detected by another device in the Find My network. The batteries are replaceable and last about a year. Plus, the AirTags themselves are IP67 water and dust-resistant.

Everything we know about the iPhone 17 Air so far

Mashable - Tue, 09/02/2025 - 10:00

Apple's iPhone launch this year is rumored to include an ultra-thin device, likely called the iPhone 17 Air (or, perhaps, just iPhone Air). It's a major shakeup of the company's phone lineup, with Apple launching three different models at the same time. Here's what we know.

Apple iPhone 17 Air: The name

We don't really know the name of the device at this point. Given that it's an entirely new device in Apple's phone lineup, it could have a distinct name sans a version number, such as iPhone Air – and that's what we've been seeing recently. On the other hand, it may be positioned as just another iPhone 17 variant, in which case it's more likely to be called iPhone 17 Air.

This Tweet is currently unavailable. It might be loading or has been removed.

Of course, since nothing is official at this point, Apple could still launch the device under an entirely different name. But the "Air" moniker is what Apple typically uses for super-thin, ultra-light devices, so that's what we're betting on.

SEE ALSO: 3 features we hope Apple brings to the iPhone 17 Apple iPhone 17 Air: Launch time Set your alarms for 10am PT, September 9, 2025. Credit: Apple

This year's iPhone launch is set for 10 a.m. PT (1 p.m. ET) on Tuesday, Sept. 9. It'll take place at Apple Park in Cupertino, California, and it will be streamed online. This year's event tagline is "Awe dropping."

Apple iPhone 17 Air: How thin will it really be

Rumors say it'll be about 5.5mm thick at its thinnest point. However, there will be a camera bump that will make it slightly thicker at that point. How much thicker, you ask? Well, we don't know, but consider another super-thin phone as comparison. The Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge measures 5.8 at its thinnest point, but the camera bump makes it 1.8mm thicker.

This Tweet is currently unavailable. It might be loading or has been removed.

As for other dimensions, the iPhone 17 Air is expected to have a 6.6-inch display, with a weight of about 145 grams.

Apple iPhone 17 Air: How much power it'll have?

The iPhone 17 Air will likely have either Apple's A19 or A19 Pro chip - or perhaps just a slightly less powerful version of the latter.

It'll also likely come with 12GB of RAM, just like the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max variants.

Apple iPhone 17 Air: What about the battery?

This, perhaps, is the key question. A super-thin phone can look sleek and fancy, but will Apple be able to fit a battery powerful enough to make it last for a full day (or more)?

This Tweet is currently unavailable. It might be loading or has been removed.

At this point, we don't really know. Rumors suggest it'll have a significantly smaller battery than the Pro models; something on par with the iPhone 12. However, Apple will optimize battery life in several ways, including using its own C1 modem, as well as an AI-powered battery optimization mode. We're unlikely to know just how well the phone will perform when it comes to battery life until we get some hands-on time with it, and we can't wait to find out.

Apple iPhone 17 Air: Camera. Yes, that's "camera," singular.

We don't know much about the iPhone 17 Air, but rumors suggest it'll only have a single camera on the back. There's no word on its specs, but we'd expect it to perform similarly as the main camera on the iPhone 17.

This Tweet is currently unavailable. It might be loading or has been removed.

On the front, the iPhone 17 Air will likely have a 24-megapixel front-facing camera, just like its siblings.

Apple iPhone 17 Air: How much will it cost?

The iPhone 17 Air will probably be somewhere in between the regular iPhone 17 and the Pro and Pro Max models. That could mean $899 - exactly the same price as the iPhone 16 Plus, which is the model that the iPhone 17 Air will reportedly replace.
